I think it's safe to say that the chance of us bringing in any of the big name free agents like TJ, Haynesworth, Nnamdi, and suggs to our franchise are going to be tough for a ton of reasons. With the pool that is left over who would you want...? Mind you these are just a few of the names and positions out there that arent you big eye catching FA

WR
Jabar Gaffney
Michael Clayton
Antonio Bryant (If not tagged)
Shaun McDonald
Bryant Johnson

C
Duke Preston
Jason Brown
*IMO if we dont get Jason Brown, i think we'll see Satele at center next year.

LB
Ray Lewis (Obviously a big name, but also old)
Eric Barton
Karlos Dansby
Bart Scott
Andra Davis

DB
Dunta Robinson
Bryant Mcfadden
Jabri Greer

S
O.J. Atogwe
James Butler
Jim Leonard (who was all over the place against us)
Daren Sharper

I like Robinson the best probably. He came back to Houston this year and really had a huge impact in turning them around. He is a shut down guy for sure. I also like Dansby and Scott for ILB. We NEED a playmaker or two there. Let Channing go. The one WR I like that isn't on your list is Devery Henderson. If he can stay healthy, he has ALL the tools. He has speed, hands and decent size. He would also come cheap.

Just look at his numbers this year. He led the NFL in YPC. He also had a great target per reception %. If we can't get him or Housh, I would rather go after Harvin in the first round if he is there.

I like devery too, i just think he is a little small for what we lack at the WR position....size. I think if we can get a big WR with good hands we'll have great balance. I like the kid out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo i forget his name but he's 6'6 and runs like a 4.6 40.
but i like dunta as well, i think he's a solid #2 corner maybe a #1 if he shows me consistancy.

Atogwe, I think FS needs more upgrading than our LB's.. we are 25th in pass defense after all

Ramses Barden...

Robinson would easily be our best CB if he came to Miami. I see him as one of the best 4 or 5 in the NFL. He has pro bowl potential. An injury only prevented that from happening I think. But, Houston knows this already. And with their lack of depth there, they are likely to give him what they need or at least make him an offer preventing him from going to another team without some pain as far as giving back some high picks.

I agree about needing some size at the WR spot too. We could sign a guy like Henderson to start this year opposite Ginn and then draft a guy like Harvin or Heyward-Bey in the first round or somebody later on to develop like Britt, Collie or Murphy. The guy you are talking about is Barden. He is huge at 220 something and 6'6". He could also be a great mid round addition.

25th in Pass Defense because ........

Atogwe, I think FS needs more upgrading than our LB's.. we are 25th in pass defense after all

The main reason we were 25th in pass defense is that asides from the 1 sack per game Joey Porter would get we had absolutely no pressure on the QB.

Our secondary played very well except for Wilson. We could use an upgrade at his safety position.

Our focus should be:
1. Wr. Except for Davone Bess we had no consistent passing game and most of his catches were in the 1-10 yard range. That won't cut it.
2. Center. To open up our nonexistent pathetic running game. The majority of the time we couldn't run inside and we couldn't run outside without gadget plays. That won't cut it in the big games. Assuming that Thomas and Smiley both come back at pre-injury form we should be OK at the guard positions. I think Carey might be too soft, playing wise and body type wise, we might need to replace him with a more physical Tackle.
3. OLB/DE that can GET to the QB. If we can put consistent pressure on the QB from both sides or up the middle without having to use our defensive backs then our pass defense will benefit immensely.
4. PLAYMAKER at one of our LB positions.
5. Maybe an upgrade at TE.

There's been talk about dept at the OL and DL positions. That is backward thinking, especially for a team like ours. We don't need dept. We NEED STUDS at ALL or the majority of the STARTING POSITIONS. Once you get STUDS and PLAYMAKERS then work on the backups.

i like mcfadden, scott/dansby, would love to see bryant but i do not think he is coming here cuz of bp

eventually some idiot is going to say it, so lets get it out of the way there are some "bill parcells" players in the list. hope we get them

I agree that our DBs are wrongly accused of being a major problem. The second half of the season, they were one of the top units in the NFL. I think we were actually weaker against the run by the end of the season. We averaged about 196 passing yards per game over the last 9 games with I think 11 INTs. I'll take that.

Also, our OL DOES have studs all of the way across the line. The problem is, Thomas who is a BEAST, got hurt the first week of the season. With him, this is a top 5 running game no doubt. We also lost Smiley with a few games left. We did GREAT to make the playoffs without those guys. But, if Ndukwe and Alleman can develop with Satele, another young guy, we might improve there without ANY additions.

Resigning Carey needs to be a priority because Sparano said he was the second best run blocker on the team behind Long. Although, I think Thomas is better too.

So, with Long, Smiley, Satele, Thomas and Carey across the front, we are one of the best if not THE best young OL in the NFL. They average what, 24 years old?

They just need some more depth to handle the injuries and I'm sure Ireland will find some. They might even upgrade a position or two if possible. But, this unit is in good shape as is the DL with all of the young guys there too.

We just need some youth and upgrades at WR, DB and LB and a young NT IMHO.

Then we will just need to get one of the young gun QBs behind center and watch this offense take off and we will become a legit SB contender as early as next season.

I pretty much agree accept about the TE position. We need to work on both lines and you didn't say a word about a NT, that we need badly. I think Miami is still 2 years from being a threat to anyone. So I hope they use this off season to finish fixing the lines they started fixing last year. I'm not the least bit concerned about the WR position at the moment, that will have to be fixed last. Without dominant O and D lines, nothing else really matters. Good example, look how bad Ronnie looked much of the time this year. I love the guy and think he has loads of talent, but he was pretty much shut down most games. I think he only had (2) 100 yard games all year. We are still a long ways from being a very good team.

there's no guarantee that Smiley will be able to come back from his injury and be as effective as he was...and i don't think Satele is the kind of Center our FO wants for the kind of smashmouth running game they want to build...

great thread. i'd like to throw my 2 cents in as well. i've looked at some of the available Free Agents, but i focused on those second-tier guys. players, who might get lost in a number's game that COULD become starters for others. so, i left out the Ray Lewis', Asomugha's and Dansby's.
