We have $10M in cap space, money is not an issue. We can hold that for injury and roll over, which is not a bad idea. Many want Mathis but, I think the cost is too high for an OG. Remember, the OL held up pretty well with bad play from our OG's until the disaster with Albert.

It's hard to say who may come available late because most teams are in pretty good cap shape but, we all know that ya never know what to expect in football. Potential shopping list.

LT/Swing OT- I don't know how happy the team is with Fox but, IF and average vet comes available, have to consider it after last year.

LB- We are paper thin here and hard to count on some many young guys stepping in if injury happens. I could see a vet pickup here by sign or trade.

OG- A beaten dead horse in discussion. We shall see.

CB- A lot of questions which may not be answered in camp but, hard to imagine any CB worthwhile coming available.

Mathis would complete us for this year anyways.. Wont fill everything, but man we'd be in great shape..

I think we have enough linebackers .

There is one guy ... Evan Mathis ... If not him .. Let's get this season started boys

For me, I would rather have an upgrade at backup LT, and a vet LB over Mathis for this team, at this time. I may be the "Lone Ranger' here.

The only upgrade available is Mathis. Name a guy who would upgrade the LBs or OT spots

The final cuts should yield a few players. Glad we still have 10M in hand.

We just have too many unknowns at this point, need to see a few games in preseason.

Lance Briggs and Evan Mathis. Maybe Rice for an injury, maybe Wayne or Welker for an injury

Kicker is in serious need of an upgrade. I'm truly done with Sturgis.

Mathis...I'm torn. Our cap situation for next season is troubling - though granted it's hard to know what the exact numbers are. If you sign Mathis you might be going all in for this season. If you roll the money over to next year, maybe you're able to avoid total cap hell and keep the team relatively intact for another run. You can't expect to win it all with one playoff run unless you've already been there...this team has to get a taste and keep going back.

We have enough bodies and potential at linebacker.....no one will come available that will be worth bringing in.

Mathis would be great....a swing tackle would be great....we are fine at corner.

For me there are two things on which to spend, 1) OL, and 2) injuries. I'd keep some cash for injuries regardless. Some positions aren't really replaceable, like Wake, Cameron or Albert. Those would be cases of re-organizing and replacing someone who took their places. But, should Pouncey, James, Misi, Grimes or Vernon go down, we will likely look to bring someone else in who can start, and that takes money.

As for OL, I'm actually OK with Fox as the swing OT. Getting a competent LT requires more money than we have, and if we again shift James over there, well we can find a RT cheaply or play Fox there. There are competent C's who can be had inexpensively, despite Pouncey being the highest paid in the league. But, our G's are atrocious. We already need a replacement starting G ... well actually two. Even with the injuries I'd make a play for Mathis. He fits the scheme to a T and is an All-Pro at our weakest position on the team. That's just too much of an upgrade to ignore.

I'm sure we will be watching the last round of cuts. Don't be surprised if our OL roster changes significantly late in pre-season.

On another note, I'm _really_ hoping Leidtke makes our practice squad ... because he could be another Mathis down the road, and it would be nice to see the fruits of our development for a change.

I am happy to get camp started... Lets see if there has been any progression with some of our youth before we claim the sky is falling...

As for Mathis - I don't know if i want a money grabbing old G on this team... If he was considered that good why is he still available?

I hear you about the kicker, but who is out there we can throw money at? Bringing in camp competition is always good, but don't expect anyone out there that out-performs Sturgis, as inconsistent and injury prone as he is.
