here is a list of some possible backup QBs:

Dave Ragone
Tommy Maddox
re-sign Freotte

a couple of guys that i was also thinking about who havent played in a while

Tim Couch, i no alot of people have a problem with him, but imagine havin the first and second pick of the 1999 draft both playin for you

another guy i was thinkin about but dont no what happen to him is Chris Redman. does anybody no were he is now. he would make a good backup

With the Saints having signed Brees and the Jets possibly getting Ramsey I think we just might be able to get Cutler again. I had given up on getting him but the Saints and Jets were two of the teams that looked like they were going the Cutler route. With them gone I think we have a 50/50 shot of landing him

I'm hope we re-sign Freotte, since he knows the system, Couch and Redman haven't played in two years at least correct me if I'm wrong

WHAT we just traded for daunte. why would we do that

Even if Cutler is there at 16, I dont think we take him. To much money for the Qb position when we have to many other holes to fill.

My first choice (on your list) would be to re-sign Frerotte. Looking at Ragone would be a possibility as well. By the way, Mcnabb was the 2nd pick of the 1999 draft, DC was the 11th pick.

Edit:and Ricky was the 5th pick.

saints cut brookes today, he would be a good pickup for a backup. I know he has had his problems with interceptions and all, but he is a solid QB that would be a quality back up to DC.

I have a feeling that Brooks will pop up as a possible backup QB, but I think he wants to go somewhere were he can compete for the starting position. I would bring him on with a 3 year contract if he was cheap. He knows Muller so that could also influence the desicion.

I have no problems with those though I don't think Frerotte wants to be second fiddle to Culpepper again. I'd be fine with Couch for a while but the one QB I'd like to see as a backup is Brian Griese. He didn't get a fair shot when he was here and coming in as a backup for Tampa, led them to a 5-1 record last season and their only victories the season before. He has a decent arm around Tom Brady's level which is good enough and our OL is much better than when he played. Plus, no Wanny.

Griese is by far the best pick...send him back to the Miami Roots, not to mention he can actually come in and start and perform well, people forget what he did on Miami with possibly the worst coach in the league running the show. Daunte probably isn't going to play the first month of so of the year, see lets get someone in there who actually can get us on a good track to get some wins next year. Hell even Fiedler is familiar with the guys around him, and he is familiar with a lot of the guys. (partially kidding on Fiedler, but no really)
