1. CALVIN PRYOR i think [hope] this regime realizes our secondary is NO WHERE NEAR championship level and cant compete with the big time passing attacks prevalent in todays nfl. if they dont go safety here [both pryor and ha-ha gone], they will take whichever of the top 3 corners are left, if any.
2. BRADLY ROBY: with safety out of the way, roby is just to good and to fast to pass on. awsome speed, super aggressive, just about everything you want in todays corner. but, there is a great possibility he goes late #1 leaving us with the choice of the best TE or LB with our second pic. JACE AMARO would be a steal if available but i think he could be gone and then LB will be the choice. UPDATE: the new "mock draft weekly show" on NFL NETWORK has us taking BRADLY ROBY with our FIRST pic.
OK, THE WHY'S: everyone is so sure we are going 0-line with the first and maybe second round pics. i am far from convinced. we just brought in a pro bowl LT that we paid a ransom for. i dont see us taking an LT in the first. there are WAY to many great RT prospects and they will look for one somewhere around the 3rd round. all of the rt prospects are pretty much around the same grade and they are not taking a RT at #19 or in the first PERIOD!!
IN TODAYS BOMBS AWAY NFL, you have to have big time play makers on BOTH sides of the ball. i mentioned our secondary and we do not have the play makers we need, that is why i went secondary both rounds. i dont have big beliefs in the two we drafted last year. and not only do we not have the starters, we need backups and the best of the draft pic and our two drafts choices from last year [ i dont see davis in the starter mix], let them battle it out and one will be the guy the other a solid backup. you HAVE TO HAVE GOOD DEPTH IN THE SECONDARY ALSO!!!
I LIKE FILO but there are just to many guards bundled at the same grade to take one in the first or second, especially when there will be offensive play makers on the board. i like filo, but, he has a flaw or two. enough that i dont think the finz [or others] wll take him in the first or hi second. so if ROBY is gone and AMARO is there, he is way to talented to pass up and will pair well with charles clay.
BOTH roby and amaro have a good possibility to be gone by the time we pic in the second and that means we go LB with pic two. i think the finz probably have LB pegged for pic two as there will be a couple guys worthy of that spot, but, roby and amaro, if one or both are there are just to good to pass up.
3rd round is where we start looking at o-line and BILLY TURNER would be an exellent choice as he can play RT and legit LT.
SLEEPER...... the WOW!! DIDNT SEE THAT COMING pic, with the 19th pic in the first round of the 2014 nfl draft, the miami dolphins select............. DEE FORD!!! if the finz feel he has real merit at olb in the nfl 4-3, do not be surprised at that pic. bill billichek is my spot for dee to land with ther #1 pic [bill runs the 3-4 and dee would be an exellent 3-4 olb], but, there are teams and scouts who feel dee ford is talented enough to play olb in a 4-3. i have seen a couple reports in draft mags comparing him to von miller with the broncos and how they used him.
AND SOMEWHERE in this draft, we have to get a PLAY MAKER in the return game. a BIG TIME THREAT and two guys i have on my list are DRI ARCHER and D'ANTHONY THOMAS. i saw a lot of thomas as a lot of my family on the wifes side are HUGE ducks fans and i saw a lot of ducks games. this kid is slight for sure but he is tough and his big play skills are real deal. we have been missing that kind of player on this team for a couple decades now. ARCHER is a big time speed demon and can play productive wr. thomas can absolutely be productive as a rb and either can be our awsome return guy. but, as i said, LATER in the draft.
thats my story and i am sticking to it. as for now.
