Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey recently underwent surgery to fix a foot injury that cost him the final two games of the season and the Pro Bowl, Pouncey said on the team’s in-house television show Monday.
“It was so tough when I turned down the [invitation],” Pouncey told The Finsiders. “When I turned it down, none of my guys had made the Pro Bowl yet. It was a tough decision for me, but I'm glad I did it. It put me a month and a half ahead of my rehab [after] surgery. It's been going really well. I'm glad I turned it down, so I could be ready by the time OTAs get here. I'm feeling really good.”
Pouncey suffered the injury in the Dolphins’ Week 15 loss to the Chargers, and despite optimism that he would play again last year, did not. He pulled out of the Pro Bowl a short time later.
It was the second time in as many years a significant injury cost him games. Pouncey missed the first four weeks of the 2014 season with a hip injury that he suffered the previous fall.
When asked in December if he was concerned about the long-term effects of the injuries, Pouncey responded: “Not at all. I just sprained my foot and my ankle, but I'm not worried about that. It doesn't require surgery or anything.”
That prognosis apparently changed in the weeks that followed. Pouncey told The Finsiders that he is “a month out of surgery.”

So an update on the Pouncey surgery: I'm hearing that it was NOT for his hip/ankle. An unrelated issue. Working to get clarity.
