"here were a few hiccups as should be expected for a player’s first day on the field involving footwork and timing, but when it came down to the basic blocking skills and strength situations, Pouncey did well. On two occasions during the 1-on-1s against veteran nose tackle Paul Soliai he stood him up."
"Even though they don’t line up directly over him in practice, defensive ends Kendall Langford and Jared Odrick liked what they saw out of the rookie on his first day. Odrick plans to test Pouncey quite a bit early on before switching roles and helping him prepare for opponents."
One important trait Pouncey exhibited in practice that Sparano was pleased to see and noticed on game film from Florida was his football smarts. It’s something he hopes to continue to see as camp goes along.
“His awareness in there was good. There was a lot of stuff happening in there with games and we had third-down pressures coming at us and he really didn’t know any of this,” Sparano said. “This guy came into the meeting room here this morning and did a super job I thought of handling that. So that’s just good football awareness of a smart player. You could see the athlete but the way he reacted to some of those things that were happening today was good.”
