"here were a few hiccups as should be expected for a player’s first day on the field involving footwork and timing, but when it came down to the basic blocking skills and strength situations, Pouncey did well. On two occasions during the 1-on-1s against veteran nose tackle Paul Soliai he stood him up."

"Even though they don’t line up directly over him in practice, defensive ends Kendall Langford and Jared Odrick liked what they saw out of the rookie on his first day. Odrick plans to test Pouncey quite a bit early on before switching roles and helping him prepare for opponents."

One important trait Pouncey exhibited in practice that Sparano was pleased to see and noticed on game film from Florida was his football smarts. It’s something he hopes to continue to see as camp goes along.
“His awareness in there was good. There was a lot of stuff happening in there with games and we had third-down pressures coming at us and he really didn’t know any of this,” Sparano said. “This guy came into the meeting room here this morning and did a super job I thought of handling that. So that’s just good football awareness of a smart player. You could see the athlete but the way he reacted to some of those things that were happening today was good.”

long as he stands up vince wolfork i'm good.

so on two plays he stood him up.. And the other 20 plays ? Soliai abused him yesterday and rag dolled him numerous times.

Moral of the story is, you can take any two plays and form your own conclusions.

so he's performing like a rookie, not an all-pro, nor a bust.

That's what I had read. Soliai has been rag dolling a few people in camp so far.

The fact that he did stand Soliai up twice is good though. Consistency is always an issue with Rookies. Kids got a long way to go for sure but at least now I'm not totally discouraged. Let's see how he progresses.

Moral of the story, anyone can rain on a parade

either way on a rookies 1st real practice and form of physical football since January, going up against one of the best NT in football last season, he held his own, even if it was for 1 play

Word of caution it only takes 1 play for a center to get a QB killed.

This regime is HEAVILY counting on this rookie class for offense. The middle of their O line, the bulk of their rushing carries, their speed at WR, their tight end complement/insurance to Fasano...lot to gamble on unproven guys. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

being his first real practice, it's not surprising that a vet schools him, probably happens to everybody. like the opening line says, hiccups are expected. you want to hear that he responds well and it sounds like he did

And Hoyer has looked better than Mallett in New England camp....it's early!

From the report I read on another site, they "threw POUNCEY to the wolves", and HE ATE THE WOLVES! Physical, strong, skilled, awareness, and smart were some of the descriptive words.
