They have a real chance to win the division. Can you believe I just wrote that in December? Big props to Tony Sparano for the job he has done.

Did you notice anything? I absolutely had to have the three-team AFC East logjam lined up in a nice, neat row: No. 8 Jets, No. 9 Patriots and No. 10 Dolphins. That's because this race is simply too close to call. But don't sweat it Dol-fans, every NFL pundit I've read this week says the schedule favors Miami winning the AFC East. Which is why it probably can't happen.

Somehow, some way the Dolphins are 8-5 and tied for first here in December. While the sky is falling in New York with the Jets' fade under Brett Favre, the man he replaced, Chad Pennington, is playing mistake-free football while also putting up excellent passing numbers. COOL STAT: Pennington ranks ahead of Favre in both QB rating and passing yards. THIS WEEK: vs. 49ers (5-8)

Held the Bills to just three points and 163 total yards. QB Chad Pennington controls the game as Miami remains a surprise squad.

Whether the Dolphins make the playoffs or not, Bill Parcells is the league's executive of the year. No one in the history of professional football is better at turning bad teams into good teams quickly. The latest reminder: Parcells managed to finagle a second-round pick out of the Redskins for washed-up defensive end Jason Taylor.

Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter is as big a reason for the team’s resurgence as any, having posted 16.5 sacks – six more than his previous career high.

Talk about a turnaround. The Dolphins have not been beached this season. The team has improved from last year’s 1-15 record and now are in a three-way tie for the AFC East lead. Chad Pennington has gone from team outcast with the Jets to team MVP in Miami. The Dolphins odds increase as they face the 49ers, Chiefs, and Jets to finish off the year. Can the Dolphins go from 1-15 in 2007 to possibly 10-6 in 2008?

If I knew whether Jerry Jones would read this blog, I would have put the Dolphins HIGHER than the Cowboys. Since Bill Parcells will not read this either, I should be safe either way.
