If they go to New Jersey and beat the Jets they win the AFC East. That would be incredible. Chad Pennington probably wouldn't have it any other way, playing against his former team to do so.

Back on Aug. 1 at Jets camp, I asked Chad Pennington if he ever went home and screamed into the pillow with all the Brett Favre-to-the-Jets talk swirling about? "Oh, yeah," he said. "I go home and blow some steam off. I'm getting ready to do it here in a second." Guess who else might be headed home to scream into the pillow? The Jets and Favre, if Miami and Pennington beat New York and take the AFC East title Sunday at the Meadowlands.

Sure they've only won two games against teams with winning records. Fine, they barely beat some of the league's worst teams like the Raiders, Seahawks, 49ers, Rams and Chiefs. But one more win against Chad Pennington's old team gives the Dolphins the NFL's most unlikely division title ever. COOL STAT: In last week's win over the Chiefs, the Dolphins held the ball for 12:02 in the fourth quarter -- the seventh time this season they've had it for more than 10 minutes in the final quarter. THIS WEEK: at Jets (9-6)

I think the Falcons and head coach Mike Smith are getting so much attention that some people are overlooking what a great job Tony Sparano has done in Miami. They've gone from 1-15 to, perhaps, one week away from the playoffs.

Last week: The Dolphins allowed 492 total yards but earned a 38-31 win at icy Kansas City behind a 3-TD performance from Chad Pennington, giving them control of their own destiny in the AFC East.

Cold, Hard Football Facts: Pennington’s 3,453 yards passing is a career high, and his 65.9 career completion percentage makes him the most accurate passer in NFL history. The Dolphins haven’t been five games over .500 since 2001.

Week 17 matchup: vs. N.Y. Jets. Pennington could truly get the last laugh against the team that eschewed him in favor of Brett Favre; Pennington has more passing yards, a higher YPA, a better passer rating and 12 fewer INTs.

The knock on Florida teams has been that they're not able to win in cold weather in December and January. The Fins disproved that in KC this past weekend and I believe they will do it again at the Meadowlands.

I wonder whether these rankings are picking the best best team in the NFL, right now, or whether the rankings reflect where they expect these teams to be come playoff time. Some pollsters seem to vote according to who is playing the best right now, while others look at the entire body of work over the season. Some polls have the Patriots slightly ahead of us, even though we have a better shot of making the playoffs,,,,,win and we are in....the Pats have to win their game and get help from us to get in. It doesn't matter where they rank us now, but who is on top at the end of the year. I think we are on a roll and have as good a chance as anyone to win this.
