The NFL is reportedly set to make practice squads bigger.

The NFL is expected to approve a plan to allow clubs to have as many as 10 players on practice squads starting this season, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on “Monday Night Countdown.”

According to Schefter, the plan is “expected” to be ratified by next week.

Teams have been allowed to have as many as eight practice squad players.

The plan figures to be popular with coaches and younger players trying to stick in the league. For starters, keeping two extra practice squad players will help a club have a deeper reserve of injury replacements who know the team’s schemes. And, as Schefter noted during “Monday Night Countdown,” the move will create 64 new jobs for players.

That's good but what are the rules about ps? I think you can only keep players who never were on an active nfl roster right?

No, there are limitations on the number of games that you were on the roster and additional rules for games you are "active" in.

With as many rookies as we have that are looking good, this should help.

Not really, practice squad players are paid by the league and can be signed away at anytime. For example if Miami put Fede on the practice squad New England has just as much rights to him as Miami does and could add him to their 53-man roster when they want.

Ya I would imagine any recievers we stash, will just get snagged from us anyways..

Do we get notice that they are about to poach him, and have the ability to put him on our 53 first?

Yes, but when a team does sign someone off the PS, they are required to also keep them on the team for a certain amount of time. So, they don't normally poach "willy-nilly".

We poached Michael Thomas the week of the last New England game, from the Niners...and he won it for us.

Sounds stupid but I wish there were a way to "tag" 2 PS guys where they would make a little more than regular PS players but when you tag them they can't be taken by another team.

But this certainly doesn't mean guys like McCain, Fede, Anthony Johnson, and Damien Williams necessarily deserve to be on it. If McCain, Fede, and Johnson are cut Miami will continue their long running stupidity in personnel decisions.

brilliant idea!!'
I have had these on my mind for a while now even with 8 ps guys. Teams should have the right time tag players just like they do with the franchise tags.

It wouldn't be fair to the player. Why should someone like Fede be able to be tagged by the Dolphins at practice squad pay, which is a lot less then the NFL minimum, when another team wants to offer him a contract paying five times more and wants to put him on its roster.
