We are on the verge of another upcoming season in which the Dolphins will miss the playoffs again making it eight-in-a-row :(

This mock, which I haven't spent too much time on, will soon have this team in contention in my opinion. Will first start off with free agency since that's what comes first

Free Agency
* I am not a cap expert
* I used Spotrac
* Assuming we don't sign Olivier Vernon

We will once again be big spenders in free agency, but it will have more to do with Adam Gase's *cough*Tannebaum's*cough* vision for the team. First order of business should be to resign Lamar Miller. I know our fanbase is 50-50 on Miller or OV but Miller has shown more as far as developing as a player. Not to mention OV perhaps cost us a couple of games with his antics last year. I'm cutting one important player, signing new players, and reducing some contracts.

Restructure Ndamukong Suh's contract. This move should free up about $18.2 million.

Cut(s): Greg Jennings, Brent Grimes, Dion Jordan, Earl Mitchell, and Dallas Thomas. Frees up about $17.9 million

Pay-cut(s): Cameron Wake and Jordan Cameron. I assumed Wake would take a $3 million pay-cut and Cameron would take a $2 million pay-cut freeing up $5 million.

18.2 + 17.9 + 5= $41+ million to go along with the $3+ million we get from not signing OV would leave us with almost $45 million.

Lamar Miller RB for 5 years $27.5 Million- People have complained about keeping our own and now we finally do.

Tahir Whitehead LB for 5 years $25 million- Young, 26 in April, ascending player that didn't get much playing time because of questionable decisions by the coaching staff; think Jenkins sitting behind Wheeler and Ellerbe.

William Hayes DE for 3 years $11 million- An older but good player who excels in the run game.

Sean Smith CB for 3 years $18 million- Reunion. Think we need a bigger corner going against the likes of Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Sammy Watkins, etc.

Alex Boone OG for 3 years $9 million- Guard with the ability to play OT. Need a veteran presence in the interior which has been plagued by young draft picks.

George Iloka FS for 4 years $24 million- Iloka is another young, 26 at the end of this month, rangy safety who was coached by our current DC Vance Joseph. Reshad is a happy man. I originally had Tashaun Gipson here but I expect he wants top safety money plus he hasn't played an entire season yet.

Damon Harrison NT for 4 years $28 million- More of a pipe-dream than actual prediction but you never know with Tannebaum. Run D is automatically fixed.

Jahri Evans OG for 1 year $2 million- Past his prime. Decent depth.

2016 Draft

Most of our needs were addressed through free agency which was sort of the point. The other is to strengthen our weaknesses and add depth.

1. CB Vernon Hargreaves III- You didn't think I was just going to add one CB did ya'? I believe Hargreaves is a Joe Haden clone and has potential to be very special.
2. OG Cody Whitehair- Versatile guard that compares to Zach Martin.
3. DE Emmanuel Ogbah-Another pipe-dream, especially after his Combine performance, but there are some questions about his effort. Wake's eventual replacement.
4. LB Deion Jones- Athletic and fast LB that is more of an OLB. Does some very special things but also is very raw.
5. QB Dak Prescott- The writing is on the wall for Tannehill and Gase may want his own QB. Has developed pretty well given his circumstances.
6. WR Charone Peake- Probably will be selected sooner but will likely follow the path of recent Clemson WRs(Sammy Watkins and Martavis Bryant). Has good size and tested well at the Combine. We have no depth after Stills.
7. LB Jaylon Smith- This is assuming the Patriots past on him . Best-case scenario: his injury scares teams, he falls to the 7th, we draft him, and he becomes one of the best LBs in the game.
Do we have another 7th? If so OT Joe Dahl

That would be an excellent draft, but not likely. Ogbah has a shot at late first round as does Whitehair. Jones and Prescott probably go a round early as well.

But, if it ended up like that I'd be thrilled.

I like this but I dont see Jordan Cameron here at that salary

All these changes are exciting, but if RT isnt elite, nothing matters

Really nice write up. I like the end result. It's a little far fetched to reach for all those good FAs but I like it nonetheless. Not impossible

Theres no way you should get deion jones in the 4th round...that is quite a talent...serious upside if he learns the ropes at lb and can add weight to his frame and not scrape the athlete...really pops in terms of tools

Think you are pretty low on some of those later listed free agent additions in terms of figures...pass on iloka

joe dahl i will be surprised if that sees day 3...i might end up with a top 50 grade there as a guard...his college tape at left tackle shows the athlete but also shows a guy taking one for the team who belongs in a phone booth

Had to have a LB somewhere and Jones is one of my favorites. Could easily see a team like Tampa Bay pairing him up with Alexander and David. Ronald Blair could have been a possibility in the 4th I suppose.

I used some of the older free agents' current salaries which is why it may seem that way. Which in particular?

Dahl's stock rose a lot but its not called "I Can Dream" for nothing haha.

But, if it ended up like that I'd be thrilled.

If someone already has an established DL and wants a younger player to take-over for an older one, Denver for example, he could go late 1st. I think his lack of effort and pass-rush moves "may" cause his stock to drop. Whitehair definitely has a chance to go in the 1st.

So if Gase is somehow another Bruce Arians, nothing else matters? Correct? Because his actions as the Head Coach is going to decide if we are competitive or not, not Tannehills' play.

That draft is a fairy tale. Whitehair is a first rounder, as is Ogbah. Hargreaves is enormously overrated. There are no top ten CB's in this draft. Ramsey is being projected as a safety.

I agree with everything except Whitehair being a first round pick. 16 Reps in the bench sealed that deal.
