I am surprised and a bit frustrated at the rush to judgement based on preseason games. I am the first to acknowledge that my beloved Dolphins have been mediocre and worse for decades.

We are all suffering because of it!

That said the team and the league puts zero stock in preseason. Just get out of it without injury. Maybe some guys surprise you on both sides of the ledger - good and bad during a preseason game. That’s it.

Fans like me and most of you have NO idea the internal workings of team - therefore the cynicism based on preseason observation are unwarranted.

Tannehill is our guy - like it or not - he’s freakin miraculous in his knee recovery - he looks fine. So be glad about that - hope for zero serious injuries and keep it close to your chest until the team plays for real.

Winning is contagious- so let’s see if we can catch that bug!

I think it's been mentioned in one of the several other threads about the pre-season but what's certainly reason of concern is the amount of penalties that we still have.

This is the average number of penalties and how we ranked in the league since 2012. You will see a disturbing trend:
2012: 5.2, 4th
2013: 4.4, 4th
2014: 5.1, 3rd
2015: 8.4, 29th
2016: 7.7, 28th
2017: 8.6, 31st

After two pre-season games we're at 7.5 penalties a game. I don't think we can just dismiss it as pre-season.

The thing with preseason is that it’s a live practice. What are we practicing.... penalties and bubble screens. Now is the time to take chances to see what works when it doesn’t matter if we lose.

I believe preseason is for evaluating players and getting your **** together qhw2re you need work ala pace, cohesiveness, positional nuances, timing, as well as working on areas where work is needed. Its a time to work on areas where we need work in prep for the season. When our #1s look as though they are in sloppy form it's concerning.

Find it hard to believe well come out crisp O and light it up when we struggle in areas we struggled in last year. More concerning is the D as we look bad.

Carolinas Coach was interviewed after the game Friday night and said they were actively trying to score and win. He wants his starters to beat your starters...he wants his 2nds to beat your 2nds...he even wants his scrubs to mop the floor with your scrubs. Does it mean 0 to him? Apparently it means something to him to see TD's and be ahead as clock expires.

That’s a winners mentality, something that we haven’t had in a head coach since Shula.

This 3rd game is going to be a somewhat true testament of what this team is going to be like during the season, seeing how this is the dress rehearsal for the starters who will be playing most of the game. If they lay an egg, then I’d be worried just a tiny bit.

If they lay an egg I'll be worried a lot. Gase doesn't have Shulas pedigree to be given slack.

Lots of talk about this third game - the opponent - Ravens.

Although they did just had to play a game last night so I don’t know how they will play it having to come in here for a game Saturday.

This is true, short week for the Ravens. Hopefully they leave it all out the field though. I want to see an actual game.

I'm tired of telling me the preseason games mean nothing.

Do the results matter? No.

Does how our starters execute on the field during their drives matter? Yes.

If Tannehill was throwing several touchdowns a game would we then say it mattered, or meant something? Yes.

FYI This isn't about Tannehill I think he's playing fine this is about the idea that we may just be rationalizing away negative traits we don't want to accept because it's preseason while we wouldn't be doing the same if they were positive.

Ok I agree.

Pre -snap penalties indicate that a team either lacks discipline or is over there heads.

I think this group of players are trying to get to a place where they are less overwhelmed by the details and can play.

I think previously in Gase’s tenure here penalties have been about carelessness as an attitude - Ajayi, Landry, Pouncey, -all brought questionable immature attitudes to the table.

So the results,so far are similar the origin of the problem is different - youth and inexperience as opposed to poor leadership.

That said, arguments that the team has failed to score or use certain players to practice their strengths are spurious. This is an internal matter on a team that has roster with half or more of their players that will be on the street looking for work in a matter of a couple of weeks.

Then this thread is for you and others who think like you.

That is, serious die-hard Dolphin fans who are getting something mixed up. The coaches are not coaching a regular season NFL game. No gameplan in place. Minimal continuity as players are rotated in and out as a matter of seeing how players perform or systems function or not. No concern for the outcome of the game. No chess match. No attempts to physically dominate the opponent at the risk of injury.

Cam was Sacked twice. Rivera’s an asshole for that alone. If Gase let that happen to Tannehill I would throw a gasget.

The fact that Gisecki gets no chance at trying to win a jump ball in the end zone is preferred by me. I prefer our starters do not play another preseason snap. It’s not worth the risk IMO.

I agree that people are going a little loopy over things. But you can definitely get a feel for how players are progressing in their understanding of our defensive system, how they look coming back from injury, etc.

I feel really good about Minkah Fitzpatrick after seeing him in action, for instance. Yes, it's vanilla in the preseason, but he has shown instincts, awareness, range, and understanding at the free safety position. That's REALLY encouraging.

The preseason may mean 0 but it at least gives ya a clue instead of just a prayer and a hope.
