Predicting Lbs On The 53

Disagree with this article. I don’t see Garvin as guaranteed lock. Hell, i forgot he existed until just now.

I see the “starters” as:
-Anthony
-McMillan
-Alonso

- next men up are Allen (who could maybe start at strong? But i think they like Anthony more for now) and Baker. Baker could get some nickle run possibly.

Who would be our back up mike tho? Keep hull around? I hope poling beats him out. Throw in Garvin and we are up to 7 bodies.. seems feasible

I think Anthony could go so far as finding his way into the lineup on the regular if he continues to develop. I see Mike Hull or Garvin (if they are comfortable with the ST) as the odd man out in their scenario.

Who is this Garvin dude? I figured he was a special teams guy that could maybe play LB in a pinch

I have a feeling McCray will beat out Hull.
Despite his pedestrian 40 time, he played at a high level at a major college program and from what I’ve read is very instinctive.
Curious to see how he plays in TC and preseason

Hull played the third most special teams snaps(341) last season
Garvin played the 4th most special teams snaps(253)for Seattle

The 3 locks are Alonso, McMillan and Baker

Anthony should make it as well and potentially start

Garvin is next and should provide a presence on special teams and depth, but he is hardly a lock, especially if the younger guys show up in camp.

We may only carry six linebackers. Chase Allen showed enough last year to be a legit contender as he can play both the SAM and MIKE.

Hull’s work ethic, smarts and tackling ability has allowed him to stick and we really haven’t upgraded enough to discount him. He has a shot.

Poling certainly has a shot as well being a draft pick. Him and McCray can win jobs but are in line for practic squad berths right now.

The unit is not good enough to discount anybody to be honest.

You beat me to punch line. I agree about McCray, he's got a good chance to make it over Hull. He seems more instinctive than Hull?

It must be said, we probably have the 32nd ranked LB group.

Alonso was terrible last year
McMillan is essentially a rookie coming off an ACL
Baker seems overdrafted and is a nickel LB only
Took Anthony half a season to get run here after Saints gave him up for peanuts
Garvin is essentially Specer Paysinger
Everybody else is 7th round or UDFA

THe only bright side is a youngster could flourish because the opportunity to flourish exists.

But let’s not kid ourselves this is not a good LB unit.

Expect a HEAVY amount of 5 and 6 DB looks with TJ and McCain and we may only put 1 LB on the field some snaps.

Then you lose Suh. We can be special on the outside with our corners and DEs but up the middle is an absolute disaster on paper at LB and DT . . . .all potential, very little proven.

Not a good recipe for AFC East football.

I pretty much have to agree with everything here. There's some potential but we really don't know how it'll turn out.

Poling over Hull. Better athlete better range better instincts similar at the poa. More upside

Garvin can play specials but he’s awful on defense when asked to play lb.

After the qb raekwon McMillan is the most mission critical player on the team.

McCray’s a limited athlete thumper with little range. That doesn’t bode well for making it on specials. Udfa due to the athlete.

Well, you took the LB corps and basically put the most negative spin on each player that you could.
There is homerism and there is extreme pessimism.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle. You must be miserable to live or work with.

Essentially all I did was point out the harsh realities of each player.

Extreme pessimism would be me predicting they are gonna be the downfall of this team in 2018. I haven’t done that.

Miami clearly thinks this unit can be something so we’ll see but I am not going to sugarcoat the recent past for this unit that has been a glaring weakness and neglected for far too long.

More or less agree with this. Only for me Anthony and Allen are both in the "very likely to be kept" category.

That would leave Hull, Garvin, Poling and McCray competing for potentially only one remaining spot. I'm not as down on Hull as most seem to be, but even putting that aside he does have his excellent ST contributions to fall back on hence why I still think he enters as very slight favourite at this point.

My guess is that one of Hull and Garvin will make the roster and the other will be released, with Poling and McCray on the practice squad. Definitely think any of the 4 have a shot though, and obviously more so if 7 LBs are kept.
