Do any of you have predictions on who will be cut prior to training camp? I predict it could be holdovers from the previous season like Strother, Atkins, Williams, and Jenkins.
Some mentioned that Meeuwsen from Oregon St. had an injury. I was not aware of that. For those of you who thought he was camp fodder, you should read some of the draft site information about him. Particularily Draftdaddy.com. He was highlighted as a player to watch that should have been drafted.
I do buy the argument that Saban will know if someone can do what he needs. And apparently Meeuwsen could not for some reason.

Do any of you think Miami will sign any of the tryout guys at this point? I generally believed the reason Meeuwsen was released is because someone impressed more on rookie weekend, such as Elam or Bigby.

Criteria for determing roster cuts when guessing?
What Saban looks for in size, speed, ability, and effort. Weigh each player on the roster (especially those he did not bring in first) on such criteria.

Be sure to throw in some surprises (e.g., Lee at te; Whitney at OG; McKinney at center; a wr).

Some veteran's I think that we might let go... David Bowens... Taylor Whitley... and maybe Tim Bowens. (Possibly Reggie Howard if we get Law or T-Buck).

We are NOT releasing Reggie Howard. Reggie is the only "proven" zone CB on the team. Madison is a man CB, Howard played a lot more zone in Carolina before we signed him. Since Poole is down for half the year, why would we cut Reggie Howard when he is the only other starting caliber CB we have on the team? Mario Edwards is a dime/nickel guy and Daniels will compete for the #4 spot unless he has a great preseason and beats out Edwards for the nickel spot.

TimBo will retire. He will not make it through training camp. Whitley will be cut. McKinney wont be cut because he is the only guy on the team who can play center..... who else has played center in the NFL? I hate McKinney, but theres no one else better RIGHT NOW on the team.

David Bowens will be cut if Roth can start. If we have Taylor, Roth, Holliday and Carter who can play DE, we are not paying Bowens 2.2 mil to sit on the bench. He was good last year, but he is small to what Saban seems to prefer at DE. He isnt an OLB and if Roth, JT, and Holliday stay healthy, I would expect him to be moved as a cap move.

I agree Philter, I dont see TimBo making it.

I dont really want to see St Clair and his contract on the roster either, JMHO.

Please understand, I never said that I wanted us to release Reggie Howard... I honestly hope he stays and starts opposite Sam Madison. I'm just saying, that there's been a lot of people around hear saying (or thinking that) he'll be released come June 1st. My list though as I mentioned was: David Bowens, Taylor Whitley, and Tim Bowens. I only mentioned Reggie Howard because there's been a lot of talk around here if we get Law or T-Buck. I don't think he's going to be released, I'm just saying I think anything's possible. I really hope we keep him, and I honestly don't see any reason to release him other than because of his salary and we overpaid for him.

Oooh I forgot about StClair. I listed him before because he is in the last year of his deal.... same with David Bowens situation. They both played very well for us last year, its just that they are both playing positions with a lot of competition. If they get beat out for their starting spot, McDougle over StClair and Roth/Holliday over DBo, then theres no point in having 1.2 or 2.2 million sitting on the bench.

First i heard of whitley getting cut, intersting. I met him at the fan appreciation day. He seemed like he was in good shape. I guess he still hasn't made the grade so to speak. D-Bo is gone, its sad I'd like to see him dress out one more game but then again this isn't college ball.

Yea I know, you said possibly.

Im going to go out on a limb and be bold here:
All the Howard talk is complete BS. We would take 3.75 mil in dead cap to release him. He didnt play great last year, but he is a zone CB playing nickel. Some people dont realize that and understand that..... From what I understand, Saban wants to use more zone coverages in the secondary. Will Poole isnt an ideal zone CB, Madison is more of a man to man CB, and Howard is the only "zone" CB we have on the team thats not a rookie. Although last year we were overpaying Howard, if he is our starting CB this year and plays every game, I think at 3.75 million he isnt overpaid. If he is playing anything else but the #2 CB spot, then he is overpaid. Right now, I dont see anyone on our roster beating him out.

If we get Law, which we wont, then Reggie will be overpaid as a nickel. If we get Buckley, which is more possible than Law, Reggie will still be the #2 CB. Buckley is a depth signing only. Letting him have playing time over younger players is just a waste. I rather see Daniels as our Dime CB than Buckley. We need to get younger on defense and get the younger guys more playing time, especially in a year like this upcoming year where we are not an established team and have a VERY outside shot at the playoffs.... with no real shot at the super bowl. Playing a 34 year vet over a 21 year old Rookie in this situation is not good for the longhaul of the team.

D. Dowens, Tim Bowens, Chris Atkins, Ayanbadejo(?), Atkins if Bua works at safety, Zgonina will probably be gone, maybe in low round trade. Corey Jenkins or Derrick pope will be gone as the undersized linebackers are cleansed of the roster.

on offense- I think Minor, jamir Martin and for a "limb pick" rosenfels will be cut for Berlin

After thinking about it, I would not be so quick to dump Zgonina with our uncertainty at the DT position. Even if we sign Traylor, I would keep both of them around. I would, however, cut D-Bow (No Paycut? Bye Bye DBow) and then it comes to some tricky decisions. Im glad I dont have to make them :)

I agree with one Bowens - David will be cut unless an injury occurs...but I really don't think TimBo is going to retire. I expect him to be there.

i love how people think we will cut reggie howard, he is a starting caliber player, why cut him? and i hope we dont sign T-buck, last thing we need is another over the hill defensive player, but i remember the article stated that T-buck contacted Saban, which was probably a funny conversation..

"hey coach, its T-buck"

"Who?"

"terell buckley, i used to play on the dolphins a few years back, I was good"

"Oh right, you played pretty well back then, so whats up? do u want a coaching job or something?"

".... no, i want to play for you guys."

"sorry t-duck, Im trying to rebuild this franchise, I dont need another has been on this team, why dont u have yoru former teammate Ty Law give me a call"

"its T-bu....."

"click" :)

I don't think Vonnie Holliday will make the team. He's just not a good player IMO, and I think Bowens will beat him out.

John St Clair played C with the Rams (his first year or 2 there) and in college. But I agree McKinney wont be cut
