I've noticed now that we have drafted John Beck, the majority of posters on this board seem to agree that Beck is a better QB than Brady Quinn.

This is something that I hadn't seen anywhere before the draft other than the people who hated Quinn simply because he went to ND. Most fans seem to agree that because Cameron and Mueller, passed on Quinn for Beck, Beck is better. When the college football season ended, John Beck was considered a late first day/early second day prospect. Quinn was always considered a top five player in this draft. Outside of The Sporting News who called Quinn "the biggest fraud in the draft," all the experts agreed that he was at worst the second best QB prospect in the draft.

So, I am curious to see...before the draft who did you HONESTLY prefer: Quinn or Beck. PLEASE BE HONEST HERE, HOMER POSTS WILL DESTROY THE POINT OF THIS THREAD.

So...at noon on April 28th, who did you prefer?

I preferred Quinn *only* because I had seen more of him and heard from all the pundits that he was the next coming of Joe Montana.

After we picked Beck I went and watched/read everything I could find on him and came to agree with the many years of experience in our front office that he was a better fit for our system.

Pretty simple. No cognitive dissonance at all. :cooldude:

I absolutely wanted Quinn! Hands down. I never thought we'd get him but when he slipped to 9, my heart was pounding! I really hope it was all just hype! I have no problem at all with John Beck. I think he will be a fine QB, with the potential for greatness if we get the proper supporting cast and guidance behind him (as any QB would need). If I did not watch the draft and just saw that we drafted Beck, I would have been psyched! But now, just knowing we had the chance at Quinn, Beck's career is no forever going to be compared to his which is unfair. I actually feel a little bad for Beck. If Quinn is a bust, he'll look like a hero. If Quinn is a star, Beck better be too because people are going to compare the two whether or not it is fair!

I prefered Quinn but I had Beck on my board to go after Quinn because he wasnt much behind Brady in skill in my opinion. I actually didn't want to draft Quinn either though because I wanted to land LaRon Landry which wouldnt have even been possible because the Redskins took him at #6 (I think it was 6) anyway. I wanted to draft a 2nd round QB like Beck or Stanton so it wasn't too bad of a draft for me anyway since we got Beck.

In the draft fourm I posted a few comments on how I felt that Brady Quinn was an overated clone of Joey Harrington, and that I did not want him. I also posted that I liked how Beck was good in late game situations.
So my pick was Beck

I just moved from utah and watched every single game john played at byu and a few that quin played. I'm a little biased, but I would still take john. My best buddy played on the O-line with john and my buddy kept talking about how good john was. This was when john was a sophmore. I later learned that he was one of byu's greats, which is a long list!

i said quinn because i did not know about this Beck kid. But i will tell you that when they showed footage of Quinn, he never gave me the Wow effect that Landry, Willis and Ginn gave me.

My knowledge of Beck was just what i'd seen of him on tape before the draft as I had a very good impression of him. However, I have to say I was much more ANTI-QUINN than I was PRO BECK. I wasn't sure which QB I wanted, but I knew it was between Beck and Edwards and not Quinn and anyone else. I crossed my fingers at 12:40 when we selected, that we'd hear ANY name other than Quinn. To be honest, I resigned myself to the fact that Quinn was indeed the name we would hear, but it was due to the fact that all the news was that we were hoping he'd fall and listening to Mad Dog Mandich getting the crowd at the bubble pumped up. When I heard "With the 9th pick in the 2007 Draft, the Miami Dolphins select, Tedd Ginn Jr., Wide Receiver, Ohio State" I screamed out a big "YES!" Then I prayed that after Quinn did go, that someone like JVille, Minnesota, or Dallas didn't draft Beck or Stanton.

I pose my answer this way:
Beck in the second round is better value than Quinn in the first.
BUT
Quinn in the first is MUCH better than Ginn...

Depends on who you ask. Certainly not our QB guru of a head coach or our QB coach who worked with Quinn in preparation for the draft.

Something else to keep in mind is that Quinn at #9 would have cost us a lot in cap space. Do you really want to commit so much money to a guy that had questions? Ginn will be cheaper and Beck replaces the potential of Quinn without the overblown contract.

Sorry, but this is a ridiculous post. We as fans are in no position to accurately assess any player. Surely we preferred Quinn, because from our perspective, he was the guy, getting all the press from ESPN, NFL Network etc. Then, you start to hear that teams have issues with the guy - scouts and coaches who watch far more tape and are far more qualified than any of us.

Then, we discover that the Dolphins had Beck rated higher on their board. Yes, Randy Mueller, Cam Camerson and Terry Shea - all of whom have a tremendous amount of experience with quarterbacks, preferred Beck over Quinn. Thats all that matters. Our opinions were based on little substance and on a lot of fluff. Bottom line, the decision was made by guys who knows quarterbacks. I dont think anyone will argue they are in a better position to grade the two players, nor will they say we got it completely wrong. Time will tell of course, but for now all you can do is believe in the staff's assessment (which, for the record, is similar to many other teams).

I certainly wanted Quinn. I'll make it no secret. At the start of the day on April 28th this is how I had my QB board.

JeMarcus Russel
Brady Quinn
John Beck
Drew Stanton
Trent Edwards
Kevin Kolb
