Thanks, Boom. Haven't read Chabon since his Mysteries of Pittsburgh, which was like 20 yrs ago

It's great. He won the Pulitzer last year and in a twist of something, McCarthy just won it this year for The Road, which is the greatest love story of all time.

McCarthy style.

I haven't read a regular novel in a very long time. I take that back, on a long trip last year or so I listened to "The DaVinci Code" so I would know what everyone was talking about. I mostly read journals, history, and Bible stuff. For my work I read up to a 1000 pages a week, thus novels are a luxury I rarely give myself.

Now that said, I still pick up "Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy" every now and then for mindless entertainment. I enjoy what passes for British humor!

I'm getting Mrs. Z into Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series. Good stuff.

Oh and anyone who's anyone should read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials triumverate.

Genius!

For historical fiction, I don't think anything can beat Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond series and Nicolo series. For those that have read Guy Kay's Fionavar series, the Diarmuid character was based on Lymond.

Also, if you haven't had a chance to read Mary Stewart's Merlin series - starting with the Crystal Cave - you have to give it a shot. A unique perspective and the best writing on the whole Arthurian legend, in my opinion.
