Here's a story we don't talk about enough this time of year. Anthony Johnson sat at his locker in preseason last August counting defensive linemen on the Dolphins' roster. Re-counting them, actually.
He counted them before he went to sleep. He counted them when he woke in the middle of the night. He knew eight linemen were expected to make the team and he was among a few players fighting for that final spot.
"Randy Starks and Cam Wake and some of the veterans told me to stop stressing about it," Johnson said. "They said to just go out and play the best you can and let the coaches do their job. You're not just playing for them in games. You're playing for every team."
He stands here, on the edge of another preseason, the Dolphins set to play at Chicago on Thursday night, and the defensive line is the hands-down deepest position on the team. He's not counting players in his second year. No sir. Not at all.
"At least I'm trying not to," Johnson said.
