Philbin: Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin meets with the media to answer questions about the possible return of Mike Pouncey to the starting offensive line and Sunday's showdown with the Packers at Sun Life Stadium. Watch as Philbin discusses the importance of the game as well as the challenges presented by the Packers offense.

All three seem to have a healthy respect for the Packers, hopefully they can instill some urgency from the beginning of the game

I enjoyed, and some of it's "coach speak", how Philbin and Lazor dismiss the statistics that are brought up in favor what they see in game tape and the analytical/logical approach that is taken vs merely statistical measurement.

Philbin: "Green Bay on paper; yards, total offense, total defense; today, they are not a great football team. If you look at points; points scored, points given up; they're 5th in football. I think we can all agree that sometimes you can take statistics and move them around in a lot of different directions... They are number one in the turnover margin.... You watch the film and you don't see them getting blown off the ball. They are too well coached."

Lazor: "People talk to me about the numbers and the statistics, but I trust my eyes... You put the film on and this defense is playing hard and they play aggressive... As a coach I respect that a lot... I throw the stats out with this team. I believe what I see with my eyes and I think it's gonna be a heck of a challenge."

In Lazor's closing words, I also enjoyed hearing him reiterate 'Philbin' as the reason he came to the Miami Dolphins.

I'd like Bill Lazor as the next head coach of the Dolphins. Whenever Philbin leaves, Bill can step up.

The man is humble and impressive. He could be a HC that sticks in this league, continually innovating and also relating well to players.

Very interesting comment by Lazor. Remember it was rumored that he would be going to Detroit as OC, where he would have all of the top weapons like Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush at his disposal. Some smart people on here dismiss Joe as a bumbling idiot because of his use of cue cards when addressing the team, but he was clearly persuasive to get Lazor on board. I expect the team to be very well prepared for this game. I think we have a decent chance for a win in what could be a very significant game.

Amen Brother!

Coaches on the Dolphins' staff who have the gift of gab:

1. Bill Lazor
2.

Here's some more quotes.

Why does Reshad Jones KEEP getting praise from Coyle? He's going to be one of the biggest reasons Coyle fails.

I have never understood this way of thinking. Philban would in large part be fired because of the lack of production from the offense...so you hire the offensive coordinator?

No matter what you think of Philbin you can't deny he seems to have the ability to get the better position coaches.

And I typically don't listen to these conferences, its 99.5% coach speak, if they ever say anything enlightening it'll be discussed ad nauseam on this board or even reported on in the press. Relative to most coaches in the league I find Philbin is one of the best speakers at press conferences, especially after losses. While I don't go out of my way to watch press conferences I did catch the post-KC one after clicking on a link to an article and Philbin was just as impressive to me with his ability to remain cool, calm and collected after losing a big game and while under heavy fire from reporters. But that may have a lot to do with my personality, I'm extremely competitive but I'm not a sore loser. If you lose try to correct the issues for next time, no use in whining about whats already done.

Definitely one of Philbin's strong points, especially this season.
When I read between the lines of the 2-2 record, IMO he seems to be preparing the team pretty well, when you consider the offense going through a major learning curve and both O and D having a slew of key injuries.
I'm still not a fan personally of a few of his "play not to lose" decisions in-game, but perhaps he knew what kind of struggle the learning curve was having on the offense, and didn't want to sacrifice the game for rah-rah sake. Again, not my preference, but that's the kind of guy he is, picking his battles, not constantly all-in. Hopefully he'll change that up in the next coming weeks with the tough line-up. Those games will be dicey, and we'll need to be all-in on O and D; can't take the foot off the gas for strategy's sake.
