In spite of what we read on how bad the Denver OL is, Peyton has only been sacked 9 times with 16 hits, and 69 hurries. In looking over the game stats, teams have had some success in coming up the gut with the inside LB (Misi), and last week Rams RDE had a great game with 3 hit, 3 hurries, and 2 batted passes vs LT Clady. Like to see OV have a similar game, and if they try to help Clady there is Mr. Wake on the other side.

He's been sacked 11 times. It's not about getting sacks on Peyton...that's hard to do. It's about consistent pressure and making him throw before he wants to or moving him off his launch point. Peyton relies heavily on throwing with anticipation, he doesn't have the strongest arm, he doesn't throw tight spirals, but he knows where he wants to go with the pass and often throws before the receivers come out of their breaks. Move him from where he wants to throw the ball, delay his release and the DBs have a chance to break on the ball and make a play. He's thrown 6 INTs in the last 3 games...2 per game. All a result of getting pressure on him.

I hope Wake hits Manning so hard that Fritos shoot out of his ass.

I should have specified that PFF is showing sacks given up by the Denver O. There are others which are team sacks.

The way things look are Taylor being our CB this week. He did well last week but, that was vs Orton and lessor WR's. Peyton will very likely go after him. Chances are, we roll a safety for help but, that would open up the middle, and Peyton will take advantage. It will be an interesting chess match.

Manning doesn't get sacked much because his awareness is truly elite and he gets rid of the ball. He also isn't running to extend the play like a lot of highly sacked QBs do. There are no gimmes, he checks off or throws it away.

It truly is elite, Last year, he threw 677 times with 18 sacks. Hard to believe.

Watched the Buffalo game for the third time now.

Odrick is blocking passes. This is one way to stop Manning.

Its more about coverage IMO setting up the sack.

Thats why I am hoping to see alot of Dion Jordan at the LOS standing up. He will shut down Tamme and cover the middle with some range.

Seeing screens to Welker all day and chop blocks galore.

and this is why you can show 7 guys at LOS with 4 dropping back. If you cant get to him, show him blitz from everywhere only to cover. Actually blitz once you see the chink in the armour.

Don't be so obsessed with sacks stats.

Pressures are qb hits are just as important. And if you watched denver vs st lou, that pressure definitely effected Peyton.
Our dline can win this game for us.

Because he gets rid of he ball so quickly, it will be very important for our guys to get their hands up. Whether we knock down a few passes or just force him to throw from different angles, either would be beneficial.

One area where Seattle excelled in the SB and you see many teams fail - rush-lane discipline. People see Manning and his inability to make plays with his legs, and they put their emphasis on applying quick pressure - often to the detriment of their rush lanes. Manning's excellent at finding lanes and making the necessary adjustment in the pocket. If you make a steady push, not giving him an area to step up, he gets uncomfortable pretty quickly. We have the D line to do the same to Manning.

And its been discussed on the radio at least that the Denver oline is simply not maintaining their assignments. They are allowing clean rushers to Peyton. So I think if we confuse the oline with stunts and delayed blitzers we can get clean pressure

Marino was the same....sacking him was difficult....the key was getting pressure on him and making it harder for him to get in a rhythm.

In fact Manning and Marino are 1-2 all time in lowest sack percentage at just over 3%.

In contrast Ben Roethlisberger is at 8%.

VG comparison. Neither one can move worth a damn but, can move enough to frustrate the hell out of defenders. I can just imagine how many defenders have gone back to the huddle saying I had him, he was dead meat but, then I didn't. :)
