Pretty good article about the future of the team!

That 17million for Wallace sounded alot better before the season started.

Sounds like the short of it is that we will be in great CAP position next year....Hopefully whoever is in charge of spending knows what to do with it...

It goes down after that (around the 10 million range)....the biggest bump next season....This year I think he makes only a few million...

Wallace
2014...$17,250,000
2015...$12,100,000
2016...$13,700,000
2017...$13,700,000

Should be interesting to see if he hangs around after he has his $27,000,000
GUARANTEED: Monies are paid

Basically he has 2 years to prove his worth....if he fails to play up to expectation....trade his tail for a few picks....

No way we can restructure Wallace. I would agree with releasing Moore only if we land another veteran back up with actual WCO starting experience which in itself would already be an upgrade since Moore is not a WCO QB. Tarvaris Jackson wouldn't bother me and would sign for a lot less than Moore is signed for. I would only cut Patterson if we go out and get one of the top FA CBs AND resign/franchise Grimes. McKinnie is a sure goner. Verner, Talib, Browner, Tillman, Jennings in that order would be awesome but they would cost an arm and a leg although on the first year they would probably have a direct hit similar to Patterson's.

Soliai is a must sign and would probably cost about $5.5 million on his first year although the actual yearly average might actually be higher than quoted in this article. IMO Grimes is around $6.5 just for the first year with an average of $7.5 for 3 years. Say we keep Clemons too which I'm against, his first year would be around $4.5 million. I do agree Starks leaves to allow Odrick to take his spot. I don't see Martin at LG, just keep him at RT or make him a back up and let Thomas try out at LG. I agree, Jerry, Keller and Clabo are goners too. So far this resigning and cutting nets $5.5 million to be taken from the $34 million quoted previously. Leaving us with $28.5 with say $8.5 mill. going to draft picks we would be left with only $20 mill. I don't see us going into another shopping spree with that.

Moore -$5.5 mill.

Patterson -$5.5 mill.

Soliai +$5.5 mill.

Grimes +$6.5 mill.

Clemons +$4.5 mill.

I don't agree with most of his highlighted free agents. I would go like this.

Talib $8 mill. his first year with an average of $11 million through 5 seasons.

We would still need a FA offensive lineman whether that be an OG or RT is up to the draft and how much we trust Thomas at LG and Martin at RT but either would cost $5-6 million first year.

We would be left with about $6 million to spare. And be left with the first two rounds of the draft to take OL.

Here's what FA cost this year. As you can see it is FAR less than their average contracts (aside from 1 year deals), and with their escalations, we will still be in better shape on next year's cap than this years.

I remember disputing what the Herald, Sun, etc was saying this year in that we will all be disappointed by not having money to spend. I'll say the same for next year, and then some.

In looking at the cap, you have to consider 3 years of who and what is coming up. We are doing that well but, the players must perform, and most FA take into the second year to live up to expectations or, prove to be mistakes.

The other thing to consider is draft picks developing to make high priced players expendable after their 2nd or 3rd year of FA or a vet coming off his rookie deal. We have yet to prove the ability to be a success in doing that.

We are trying with Miller for Bush, Martin for Long, and next year, Dallas for Cog, Sims for Fasano, and eventually "maybe" even Jordan for Wake. IF you have the right timing, you can get value picks for the players being replaced. Nothing we have seen. We are a year off.

One thing, and maybe the only thing, I really have appreciated about Ireland is his negotiating skills along with his ability to stick to his guns when spending money. IMO Aponte and Ireland make a great team and I feel confident they have the team's financial future planned out. If it was up to me I would promote Gaine to GM and move Ireland to team with Aponte to handle the financial oversight and negotiations side of our players.

Talib played great for NE, Revis is a possibility. Tampa could cut him.16 million per year or try to trade him. However he needs to play man to -man. Trade for him (maybe a 3rd) and renegotiate a 3 yr 36 million contract . Revis contract is a 16 renewable contract every year. Revis sees where the market is , However . Having to watch the Jets every week in NY, Revis is as close to the most complete dominate player I have ever seen. Trade for him, re-neg. and allow him to dominate the number 1 receiver of the other team, along with our pass rush. If we were lucky enough to keep Grimes and our rookies develop. We are very tough to pass on

Clemons 7 mil a year is laughable ...asinine

I also think we sign Keeler at vet min., If by any chance you can sign a Boldin you do it. Another guy out there who will not get the money he believe he is worth is S. Holmes( who when healthy this yr had over 150 yd day) and always has the big day catc,h will be healthy next year. Sign either . Sign left tackle help, sign J Allen. (Like Trace Armstrong). We are closer then we think. We have a young core,we just need vets to show them the way.

Dimitri Patterson is scheduled to make $5.2 million next year, and we could cut him and not take a hit. He needs to play well this season....

You want to see more of Jimmy Wilson playing corner?

you pay chris clemons $7 mil per year you should be fired on the spot...i doubt grimes on the wrong side of 30 commands $10 mil per either but i guess it can't be ruled out...teams are sure staying away from him of late

You would too if you could go after Jimmy Wilson instead....

Thanks for posting this. I found it very insightful. Whoever took the time to break all that down, is either the biggest Dolfan in the world, or a huge nerd. Maybe both. Anyway this article reconfirms in my mind this team has a bright future. Even with the woes of the last month, I like many of the pieces in place. The key is obviously Tannehill. He has to pan out, or the timing with the rest of the teams development won't mesh as well with some other guy we draft 2 yrs from now and get past the learning curve. I say Tannehill is a mentally tough kid and will play through the bad game and continue to grow. Get him a half way good line and I think he can shine in this league. Anyways thanks again - GO PHINS!!!!
