Looking at all the stories about the Miami Dolphins' trade of Jason Taylor to the Washington Redskins, you would think the Dolphins got fleeced.

The reality is the Dolphins got the better end of the deal.
He had 11 sacks, which is better than any Redskins player had last year, but he wasn't as effective, according to some scouts.

"Watching the tape from last season, he just wasn't the same player," said one team's personnel chief. "He wasn't worth more than a fourth-round pick."

I agree.

The Redskins gave up a second-round pick in next year's draft and a sixth the following year. That's too pricey.
Fans love deals that involved big-name players. Most of the time, these backfire for the teams that get that player.

This one will be no different.

Taylor for a second-round pick is a fleecing all right. It's the Dolphins that did the fleecing.

just like randy moss was done and was worth that 4th rounder.

It's a good value for the Dolphins.

If JT plays as expected this year, it's still a good value for the Dolphins, but not a "fleecing".

If JT under-performs, then, yes, it's a "fleecing."

this jerk took the redskins side which most media people will not take the dolphins angle . ithe main thing is , that we are getting a 2 nd rd pick and a sixth rd pick in 09 of course i think a 2 nd and a 5th rd pick would have been fine with me.

Keep in mind that we were 1-15 last year and we had Dom Capers as our d-coordinator. Dom Capers, the guy who had Joey Porter in a 3-point stance. Also keep in mind that there was no one opposite JT that could get consistent pressure on opposing QB's, leaving JT as the main focus of offensive lines. I know he's on the decline, but I think he's still got a couple of good years left in him. The Skins will see immediate production, but that production will decline quickly after a couple of years, IMO. It's a great deal for all three sides (Fins, Skins, and JT). Now we can continue to rebuild and JT can play for his title contender.

I really hate to see JT leave Miami for a lot of different reasons, but this really is the best move in the long run. Basically lets say he plays another two years. Realistically Miami is probably three to five from being a legitimate playoff/standout team. They will get (hopefully) a good value pick with the second round addition and that will be a player who again hopefully will be on the team for the upcoming year(s) not year...

The cowboys cannot be too happy that they have to face him twice a year though.

It's a great move for us to rebuild, and to rid ourselves of a disgruntled player.

It is a good move for them, if he is the player they expect and he pushes them over the edge helping them get into the playoffs. Either way I dont see either side robbing the other....but how he does this year, and how we use the pick next year will make everything a lot more clear.

I heard JT say that he's in MUCH better physical shape this year than the year he was NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Why? Because of all that "Dancing with the Stars" stuff. There's a lot of aerobic workouts involved you know. I bet his agility and quickness is better and he's more flexible. He might have some improved fancy footwork that'll help him juke those left tackles good this year. :)

If JT picks up their system in a hurry, the Redskins might have gotten themselves a good deal. How many years JT has left, I don't know. He ought to be primed for 2008 though.

Also keep in mind that there was no one opposite JT that could get consistent pressure on opposing QB's, leaving JT as the main focus of offensive lines.

Not to mention when you're run defense is that porous, you're sack master gets less opportunities. I think he can be effective for the skins but I'm pretty impressed that we were able to get a 2nd round pick. If they had traded him for anything less I would have been upset.

I'd say it was a great "need" trade....the Skins needed a DE....and the Dolphins needed to get younger and dump a player who just didn't want to play in Miami anymore.

I don't think that either team got fleeced.....but who in the media is going to write that? Not much of a headline. If I truly thought that this was JT's last year OR that his play has declined, then I'd say the Skins did give up too much.....but I don't buy either of those things.

No one will know if it was a "Fleecing" for some time. It ultimately depends on Taylo'rs performance and who the Fins take with those picks over the next 2 years. Or at least what those picks turn into. I will say this though, The Fins got a 2nd Rounder and a 6th rounder for a 34 year old DE who had 2 games last year when he did not record a tackle and 8 games where he did not get a sack.
Many people wanted the Trifecta to trade JT on draft day, well the best offer that I read was a 4th rounder. They stuck to their guns, they were able to get their price, and JT gets what he wanted as well. It was good for everyone.

It's no secret Taylor has been on the block all offseason. If it was such a great steal for the Redskins, it makes you wonder they waited until late July to pull the trigger. Or why 30 other NFL didn't get pounce on it before they did.

All I have to say is he was a great player and seemed to be a great person..He'll ALWAYS be a Dolphin in my mind and I'll miss him. Good bye Jason and thank you for all the great memories, good luck and I hope you come back to retire as a Dolphin.

It was a win-win for both teams. The Redskins needed a DE to offset the loss of Daniels and Buzzbe, and the Dolphins got much needed draft picks to rebuild the franchise.
