This is pretty random, but I've been thinking about it the last few days. Officially, are players recognized as being "Pro Bowlers" if they selected but do not actually attend/play in it? Because at the rate that players are being swapped in and out at various positions, we're looking at a helluva lot of "pro bowlers" this year haha. For Christ's sake, we're down to David Garrard for the AFC! Could we have a whole bunch of "pro bowl" QBs for 2009-2010, with the top few picks all skipping out?

Yeah, they're still counted as a Pro Bowler if they don't show up for it.

That's what I was thinking, which makes it pretty retarded. At the rate that the Pro Bowl dropouts are going, we're looking at having 1/3 or more of each conference's starters (at least at some positions) being "pro bowlers" on a given year hahaha

sad but true. but it's not like "Pro Bowler" had much significance in assessing players anymore. it was a popularity contest. with the Pro Bowl being played prior to the SB, it's going to blow up in the league's face. finally

i guess the crazy part is that a lot of contracts these days are loaded with incentive clauses (ronnie brown comes to mind) where going to the probowl is $$$$ rewarding.
i'd make the alternates wear a scarlet A.
