I was just watching a highlight video one of the FH members posted in a thread. I, of course, am very frustrated with Ted Ginn.

What I notice more than anything is a lack of effort/fundamentals. Each time a ball is thrown his way he will wait for the ball to come to him and just sit back while defenders make their move to try to get to the ball. He doesn't get the ball at its highest point. He gets his hands constantly crossed up because he fundamentally tries to catch the ball wrong.

Anyone who was taught to catch a football knows that you make a diamond with your thumbs and inde and the ball fits nicely right into that diamond. As Ginn attempts to catch the ball it looks like he just slaps his hands together when he thinks the ball will be there and the ball either slips right through or it just hits his hands.

Not only does Ted Ginn need a lesson on fundamentally catching a football, he needs a lesson on how to handle his attitude. You can tell that he gets bent out of shape and I think that just continues to pile the bad onto Ginn. I personally think he is not going to catch on with this team and it is only a matter of time before he is playing elsewhere.

Yup good points about Ginn.

He reverts back to instincts when the heat is on. Those instincts lead to drops, running out of bounds, not fighting for yards, etc.

And yes, he is very sensitive to pressure, criticism, etc. He doesn't have a chance in the NFL unless he's in a no-pressure position to make plays (e.g. #2 or #3 receiver).

NEWSFLASH

We don't have receivers or tight ends who can attack and fight for a ball when it's in the air.

Other teams have those guys. We see them burning our secondary every week winning those battles.

well siad we need some upgrade @#WR :woot:

Maybe he just needs to going back to what he does. Get in his comfort zone, make plays, and just catch the football and take it upfield. **** catching it like a diamond. Play like you did when you played your friends in backyard football. Restore his confidence with his type of routes and reverses/screens and he will come back to his former self.

WTF...backyard football? This is the NFL. And what is with all this talk about coming back to his former self? Ginn has rarely displayed play making skills as a Miami Dolphin. Even Ginn's most ardent fans have been saying wait until year three b/c that is when all WR's break out.

What we currently see is Ginn's former self. He hasn't changed much from day one.

I think Ginn's biggest problem is his lack of body control. He has great straight line speed, but if he needs to adjust his body to catch a ball he just doesn't seem to have the ability to do it. His hands are obviously also questionable, but it seems like his lack of body control amplifies the hands issue.

First off Ginn never had an issue dropping passes in college or his first 2 years. He had some but nothing that deserved for him to be infamous for. Chambers did (thought he made his fair share of plays. no hate here)

I'm pretty sure these guys came from dominating backyard football. Backyard football is what the Patriots play. Throw it deep, throw screens, and run the ball for fun. Seems to work and I admire the way they play as much as I hate them.

Ginn needs something and it isn't analyzing every little aspect of the game. Its getting back to what you do. Ball. And ball hard. I think his over analyzing and trying TOO hard that is the reason he is dropping passing and not producing. Comfort is what its all about. Don't imagine yourself in the scene. Imagine playing catch with Dad. Ask any professional athelete.

Other than Ginn, I'm quite satisfied with our WR Core. Bess is a really underappreciated slot reciever. Hartline would be making more plays if he was playing more. I can see Camarillo making key catches thoughout the season. I don't know what I can tell you about Patrick Turner though.

 Okay...whatever. Do we even need coaches?

The Patriots play playground football...yeah right! Somebody better tell Brady and Belichick they are wasting all their time watching hours and hours of film b/c all they have to do is go out there and imagine they are playing catch with Dad.

BTW...Ginn was never a very good WR in college. His speed allowed him to exceed in college, not his skills. Unfortunately, the NFL is so much faster than college that he would now need some skills to excel.

The original poster was correct in that Ginn has piss poor WR skills.

Well Randy Moss rarely catches the ball with textbook technique. He always uses his body. I rarely see him use his hands anymore.

Not sure what Moss has to do with Ginn's poor technique. Having said that I would say you are wrong. Moss knows how to use his body to shield the defender from the ball but he still catches the ball with his hands even when they are close to his body and he is also able to go up and get the ball with his "hands" like few others can.

Hey my man I'm not sitting here saying the work doesn't cut out for them when it comes to playing NFL football. But when it comes to instincts and reaction it comes down to doing what you did when you were a kid. Every NFL player has played since they were younger, leagues or not. I'm not saying you don't have to use film or practice to get better.

Its about reverting to what you do and what you did. All these kids had 'it' when they were younger. Film study didnt make them the players they are today. You must of never been a good football player. Not trying to result to personal attacks but you don't seem to understand the philosophy. Speed is something Ginn does not lack and your inability to understand that underestimates your arguement. I'm not saying its backyard football with dad and friends, I'm saying thats where it all begins.

Brady and the Pats play like its pop warner football, thats why they are so good, and have been. Film study my ***, look at the last game against the Giants last season. Brady and Moss wanted to break the TD record so the did. Play action fly route to moss, bad throw... Do it again b/c you do what you do and don't let the defense dictate who you are as a team. TD, record broken, next play.

Gimme a break. Brady is one of the best students of the game along with Manning. That is why they are great. Is Moss a physical freak? Yes, but he also works his a$$ off too. That is why it might look to you like it is like they are reverting back to their backyard or pop warner.

Just look at the greatest WR of all-time, Jerry Rice. He wasn't great b/c he played like it was pop warner. He was great b/c he was dedicated to working harder than everyone else. At the pro bowl players from both teams used go out and watch him work out. He was the first one on the practice field and last one to leave.

If you think these guys are great b/c they are just reverting back to their childhood I would say you are living in a fantasy world. They make it look like do b/c they work their a** off.
