Professional Scouting vs College Scouting

Whatever you might think of Miami's drafts, the pro scouting department has been horrendous. Even if you think they could have had addressed different positions, Pouncey and Thomas look good. Gates, Wilson, and maybe Clay look like they have potential.

But the entire professional scouting group needs fired immediately. Now that I have gotten a good look at Burnett, he is not at all what he was advertised. Look at what they said about Bush when they got him. They thought he could do things no one on the planet thought he could do. Look at the list. Gibril. Wilford. Smiley and Grove were injury prone and everyone knew it. Traded Satele for nothing. Ok, they did fine on Dansby but everyone knew he was good. Fasano is solid. Incognito was a good pickup. But they are drowned out by way more whiffs. They just haven't projected well off other NFL teams.

My premise is this. Compare college scouting with pro scouting. College scouting has not been horrendous. But the overwhelming evidence is that the professional scouting department has been abysmal. They need to overhaul the pro scouting approach. Whether it is investing resources, firing the department, whatever. Those guys are killing the team.

The entire franchise needs to stop basing every decision off of projections and focus on actual production. Look at the team like Balitmore, they will take the players that Miami won't even look at because they are too busy kicking rocks looking for Gems that no one else has found. This happens in the draft as well as Free Agency.

I am not so sure that this team is devoid of talent..Henne is the big reason the offense is bad..Alot of posters act like he is under constant pressure...He is not..Alot of sacks are his fault..I did recall seeing Daniel Thomas miss a blitz and we know Columbo is awful but as a qb you have to deal with that..The guy does not trust his arm...So I think that the offense does have some talent at least the jury is still out...The Defense looks to be devoid of talent..Our linebackers cant cover..Our Dbs cant cover..We get no pressure up front..The only edge rusher we have is Wake and he is looking like he is slowing down...Our Safties cant communicate and cant even get us lined up.

I've been harping on this for years. The Pro Scouting department has not done a good job. At all. The college and semi-pro scouting has been OK, sometimes a little better than OK, other times a little worse than OK, but the Pro Scouting has been AWFUL.

Dansby, Marshall and Incognitto have been upgrades last year. That has been our best year. Bush and who ever the ILB we picked up have not proven much. The first 2 years of FA produced nothing in the pro ranks out side of Starks, McDaniel and Wake. I know in hind sight that we could have picked other players other fans like better but we have some pretty decent ones too compared what I have ever seen around here. Even in JJ days all he got were some defensive players and went the free agent route on offense. Shula was marginal. Outside of the Henne debate and Columbo we can win most of our games with the guys on this team I am telling you. Leadership and coaching. Daniel Thomas the last 2 games has been outstanding and there is not a reason in the world with his contributions we did not win those games. Thats why I know that the seaon is lost if we could not capitlize on that fortune.
