ProFootballFocus.com stats(offense):
WR - Davone Bess - 17
WR - Ted Ginn - 36
WR - Greg Camarillo - 67
WR - Brian Hartline - 92
Note: these ratings look skewed with TO, Fitzgerald, Boldin, Galloway, and Moss in the bottom third of the league.

T - Vernon Carey - 20
T - Jake Long - 35
Note: Jake Long struggles with speed rushers. Carey seems to have been playing hurt.

G - Donald Thomas - 49
G - Justin Smiley - 68
Note: I haven't been impressed with these two. These are backup numbers, of course. But the numbers may be a bit skewed.

C - Jake Grove - 1
Note: Something seems wrong when Grove is number 1 and the other guys are backups. Perhaps a statistical anomaly.

TE - Anthony Fasano - 8
TE - Joey Haynos - 12
Note: Fasano doesn't look like the same player as last year. I'd like to see more Haynos. Fasano was a true weapon last year, he seems to have been forgotten this year. If you're looking for YAC, the big TE isn't a bad place to turn.

QB - Chad Pennington - 6
Note: A consistant performer.

HB - Cobbs - 7
HB - Williams - 8
HB - Brown - 8
Note: 3 guys in the top 10.

FB - Polite - 4
Note: unexpectedly high.

Hi

I actually work for PFF, do player participation and articles, though I have only watched one Dolphins game in full (Atlanta)

I wouldn't put too much stock in the rankings yet because the season needs to develop a little before the superstars rise to the top.

Essentially every play is rated and a grade assigned, we then have a process we call normalising which takes into account how many plays you have played to make sure it is evenly weighted.

At times the overall ranking can seem a bit weird, because we take into account every facet of play (wide receivers run blocking for example) so if you click on the pass tab, then it will show you who so far as performed the best (not who is neccessarily the best, as we cant take things like injury/ opponent into account, only what happens on the field to eliminate subjectivity)

Any questions I'm happy to answer, or get our analysts to answer in regards to the Dolphins. It can be a tricky site to navigate but once you get to grips its invaluable as a football fan (accurate stats for example) and you may even end up doing some work for them like me :p

Like is subjective :p

I'm a Falcons fan who came to shoot the breeze over our game, and stayed because its hard to find places where theres good civilised football discussion

Falcons got a good team. You really whooped us week 1. I think our offense wasn't prepared to see your defense play with so much intensity.

Good job on the website and think it is cool what you are doing, but I got to ask how you take into account every facet of play if you have Ginn as #36 for WR...only catching 13 of 27 passes his way (from a team that has completed 48 of 67 passes to everyone else), at least 4 dropped passes (including 2 for TD, one with game on line), only 6 YAC, 0 TD, and is NOT a good blocking WR?

I wouldn't look at where he's ranked right now, but rather look at his score. Its around average ... and while I don't the analysis, from watching Ginn I would say he is losing marks for the drops but is getting marks for his route runner and ability to gain seperation. Don't think he's been overly helped by the QB play in the first two games (week 3 may see his rating drop, I didn't see much of the Chargers game)

Its the problem right now, fans (not like yourselves who can partake in constructive crictism) see the rankings and think we're making statements as to who the best players are. We're not. We're just going on the game tape

Even taking the ranking into context and he's looking like a number 2 receiver, and a lot of that will come down to players who will perform than him over the course of the season (you'd imagine) starting off slowly.

I imagine if Ginn plays the way he has been playing then over the season he'll drop ... and if he gets better, then things will look a little nicer at the wideout position.

Could we get a link so we can find out sorta what theses number mean?

I dont think I can post links but will try

Google search profootballfocus and its the first link. Have a look, it can take some time to get familiar with it so give it a chance. We're trying to make it more user friendly so any suggestions will be noted :)
