Profootballtalk: Florio thinks Dolphins could sign both Smith & Flynn

If we sign smith alone I'm taking the year off! I will be soo pissed!!!

The cap room isn't the problem. We haven't restructured, or cut people with salaries that are way too large (Bell and McDaniel). If we did that, we could easily make the room.
So do we really want to cut and/or force players to restructure just so we can create a QB controversy? Problem we run into is the loser of this will want out in order to get a starting gig elsewhere. Plus, I'm guessing Moore (our best shot at a backup QB) would be gone before our season even starts. How about a WR, OL, TE, etc. that we still need?

Of course we don't want to, but we could create the room. I'm still pissed we didn't extend long, and use the resulting cap room to sign winston.

Why are you pissed about not wanting to sign someone who wanted to be the highest paid player at his position?

If Philbin's plan is to eventually build the foundation of this team through the draft, then that is where we will eventually find our RT and other positional players.

More to the point why would both sign ?

Flynn isn't coming here if Smith is here and vice versa

I don't know how smart this move would be, considering we would definately need to create salary cap room to accomplish it, but it is something I did contemplate as a possibility when I heard Alex Smith was visiting. Many of us think Bell will either restructure or be a cap casualty, but Ireland has stated that he feels Bell is extremely important to the success of our defense, so I don't think he will be cutting him. To the chagrin of many on here, I could see Moore be a cap casualty,as he has one of the higher cap numbers on the team after Long, Dansby, Bell, Fasano, etc. I also don't know exactly how I would feel about that, but the orginization has said it would address the QB position this year and Smith, Flynn and a developemental rookie would be doing that(for better or worse)in what is a rebuilding year for this team.

its simple. flynn has been made an offer. he either wants it or he does not. smith was offered 3 years 22 mil or something like that. Miami might see more upside with smith (i know hits hard for some to believe this) as he is bigger and athletic and he only had 5 int's last year in a complete year with playoffs. Its really not hard to fathom that flynn instead takes off to Seattle (i think he prefers miami but wants more money) but where else is he going to go? Its seattle or Miami. Seattle offered him competition money. We offered starting money with less long term money IMO. Less bonus.

I think Smith being available to us right after Flynn is great. We could end up thanking Peyton Manning when all is said and done. Cus he caused all this with Smith. I like Smith. What alof of people do not understand is that some Qb's take a while to blossom in right situation. Smith all of a sudden got a right situation last year. Harbaugh could end up with nothing in the end and scrambling for his qb, not the dolphins as many suggest on here.

Signing both makes no sense but it would be kinda ironic if We end up signing Smith, Manning signs with Den/Ten and the 49ers end up with Flynn. Not as far fetched as it sounds.
