profootballtalk - Miami lineman getting restless

PFT is just guessing that this is how the linemen feel and putting it in print. I mean if your coach is criticizing you in public, aren't you going to feel frustrated? Yeah PFT's really out on a limb there. Take this crap with a grain of salt.

Saban's had years of winning. He wants to win now, reguardless of what he says. He trying to get the most he can out of these guys, and see where that will take them this year. Not a player, nor a coach in this league, play to win it next year or the year after.

If you read the direct quotes carefully you'll see the criticism is for not physically making blocks. Something I saw happen to McDougal repeatedly in the first 3 preseason games. It may "take time to gel" and it may "take time to function as a unit". But Saban's criticism isn't for someone missing their assignments or lining up wrong. I think he would rightfully blame those things on the coaching staff. But once you have "your hand in the dirt" and you decide who you are going to block, and he throws you aside like a small child there is NO reason to wait and see what develops later in the year. We didn't pick these guys up at a bus station, they are all supposed to be professional offensive linemen. If they have no ability to play the game they should be disposed of.

Boy, I saw this comming, But it isnt a great source.

Saban is not Parcells, he cant do that stuff. Players run the team, unless your a winning coach.

It will be hugs and kisses if he wins, but if you dont, look out.

Well what do they expect, the o-line sucks. If it was the real world, they probably would have been fired by now. It's time these linemen get their act together and start kicking some you now what. And if they don't like it they can get the you know what out of here. These linemen are an embrassement. So get the job done and stop your wining.

If players are running the team, I think you're in deep trouble. Also, Saban is a winning coach. He's won in college and in the NFL (albeit as a coordinator). That said, he does need to earn respect from the players and you get that from winning.

What Saban has been trying to get across to the players is that if they do what they're coached to do with the intensity, intelligence, and the other "i" that I can't remember and then the team wins, Saban earns his respect and the players buy into the process. But, if the players don't do what is coached, they're off the team or demoted on the depth chart. Not the other way around, which suggests that players run the team.
