CAMP BATTLES FOR FINAL ROSTER SPOTS:
bold = my projected winner of roster spot
underline = projected practice squad player(for those who don't know, there is a rule that players are ineligible for the practice squad after two years of NFL experience or something like that)
Running Back
Kay-Jay Harris (RB) vs. Gerald Riggs (RB) vs. Darion Barnes (FB)
-most likely only one of these guys will make the final roster. A lot may depend on if the staff is comfortable with Sammy Morris playing a little FB as well. If they are, then D. Barnes is probably gone, I believe, due to his one-dimensionality.
Wide Receiver
Kelly Campbell (WR) vs. Devin Aromashodu (WR) vs. Marcus Vick (WR/PR/KR/QB)
-these guys will be fighting for one spot, possibly two if the coaches want to take 6 WR's on the roster. IMO, Campbell wins and the other two make the PS. (A bunch of other WR's as well will compete. like Cliff Russell, Fred Gibson, Frank Murphy, etc. I don't think they have a real shot at the roster, but maybe one will surprise)
Tight End
Keith Heinrich (TE) vs. Teyo Johnson (TE) vs. Jason Rader (TE)
-probably only room for one of these guys, and I give the spot to Heinrich b/c of his experience over the other two, even though he's been injured off and on throughout his career. Journeyman Teyo Johnson, I believe is one-dimensional in that he can't block and has been a bust since drafted, and Rader was in camp last year, then went to Europe this year.
Offensive Line
Wade Smith (C) vs. Joe Toledo (OG) vs. Joe Berger (OG) vs. CJ Brooks (OG)
-again, most likely only one of these guys will make the final roster. A lot depends on how the staff is willing to use McKinney. If they're comfortable with him be the only guy to fill in at Center behind Hadnot, then Wade Smith is out. Then it comes down to Toledo, Berger, and Brooks fighting for the last spot at OG.
Defensive Back
Shiradonya Mitchell (CB) vs. Eddie Jackson (CB)
-I don't think there'll be room for either on the 53-man roster unless someone goes down with an injury or unless we take 10 DBs instead of 9. I haven't heard much talk about Eddie Jackson, but he's built well, is supposedly very fast, and remember he got some playing time last year. Mitchell has been talked about alot, so based on that (and how high everyone is on his speed), I say he makes the Practice Squad.
Other Notes:
- yes, I believe Eddie Moore makes the roster. When he's played I think he's done well, showing agility and 1st-step explosiveness. This is of course assuming he stays healthy for once.
*SLEEPER TO WATCH*
OLB - Sam McGrew - signed as an udrafted FA this year out of Florida St.; never was a real starter as he rotated in playing time with some amazing talent at Fla St.'s LB position over the past few years, but still played significant amounts of time. He's thick and strong, the general knock on him being his lack of speed and athleticism. But, watch this past year's Fla St/ Penn St. Orange Bowl, this guy was all over the place. He also made some great plays against U of Miami earlier in the year that I saw. With the relatively thin depth at LB, and the size Saban likes, there could be room for him on the roster, especially if anyone goes down with an injury. I have him making the practice squad as of now.
