These stats will tell you all you need to know:

2016:
31st in total first downs with 278
19th in first downs by the rush
28th in first downs by the pass
30th in first downs by penalty
31st in converting 3rd downs
32nd in converting 4th downs
4th most penalized team; 3rd most by yardage

2017:
32nd in total first downs
30th in first downs by the rush
30th in first downs by the pass
14th in first downs by penalty
32nd in converting 3rd downs
17th in converting 4th downs
3rd least penalized;2nd least by yardage

And there you have it, folks. garbage offense.

WOW, I didn't realize we were that bad last year. I guess big plays, which we were high in last year, masked some of that ineptness. Gase pretty much lambasted the offense in his presser today and I agree with him. While sometimes finheaven like to attack the defense we all know it's not a great unit. The offense is supposed to be the strength of the team so I've always given them more of the blame when they can't score and the defense gives up 20 points. This seemed to bother the hardcore RT folks but I'm sure it doesn't bother them now.

We're also 30th in rush average at 3.0 yards/attempt.

I love when people cherry pick stats to make their argument seem better.

You also failed to mention that in 2016:

7th in yards per play
14th in turnover differential
8th in passer rating
5th in yards per pass attempt
3rd in 40+ yard plays
8th in completion percentage
7th in yards per carry
9th in total rushing yards
1st in 40+ yard runs

You're also using an entire season metric over two games, which is definitely not an appropriate sample size since we've only played two games when most teams have played 3.

Also, Miami was 25th in 3rd down percentage, not 31st.

Miami also went for it the least out of any team in the NFL. A whopping 4 times, so that's not an appropriate stat to put into your post.

Note too that Miami ran the fewest offensive plays in the NFL last season.

You also leave out the most important stat: points per game.

In 2016 Miami was 17th in the NFL in ppg. Not good, but not bad either.

The offense overall was average last year, and is below average so far this year.

Average offenses comprise the largest number of offenses in the league. Teams are far more likely to be average than they are to be either exceptionally good or exceptionally bad.

Offense started off slow but was really at its peak when we faced Arizona if you guys remember Tannehill would have probably had like 5 TD's that game they were shredding Arizona. Tannehill's input & Gase listening throughout the season got it to a really good place. We scaled back when we got Matt Moore.

The 1st downs by penalty statistic I found most interesting. One of the advantages of throwing deep is to be the beneficiary of pass interference and holding calls by the defense. It doesn't even matter if the receiver is open and even an interception is functionally equivalent to a punt.
