If that ain't the ****, I don't know what is. As an off-topic aside, I really think the NFL needs to start pushing American Football as a real sport. It's already represented in the World Games and was the most-watched event during the 2005 Games. A spot in the Olympics would be a massive achievement.

Problems with American Football in the Olympics:

- You'd need to play about 2-3 games a week.
- Injuries.
- USA v who?

Cool picture though.

Just adopt an NFL-style tournament system. As for USA vs who, check out the rest of that site. Believe it or not, there's a World Cup of American Football, during which Japan won the Gold. Germany defeated Sweden during the 2005 World Games.

When did the NFL become a fake sport??

Ask any soccer fan what their opinion of American Football is. Their first instinct is to make fun of the padding, they think the protection makes football players wusses and thus illegitimizes the sport. Of course, my response is usually along the lines of, "Tell you what, let's do a test where you take one of my hits and we see how many of your bones I break."

They usually shut up after that.

foot fairies making fun of a gladiator sport like football, wow:eek: that doesn't make any sense, you would think soccer players are the one's to called wusses. The only physicality to soccer are slide tackles and I'd rather be slide tackled any day from an average size soccer player than be slammed into the ground or wacked by a 250 lb lb or 300lb lineman

i dont think its fair to call them 'foot fairies' because most football players (some kickers excluded) would look like lumbering idiots if they ever got put on a soccer field. Soccer is a sport that commands some of the highest endurance and highest skill level. i dont think its a fair or valid comparison between soccer and football. they are different sports, which require different abilities.

By the way, Italy and Iran are the sides i am rooting for in the World Cup. can't wait until June!

Yeah, and then there's the diving. There are players in Europe that are known for it, but you'd never catch somebody on the US national team doing it. I like watching the occassional game of soccer, but it makes my stomach turn when a fan of a sport where aggressiveness is usually considered a negetive calls players of another sport wusses.

diving has nothing to do with aggressiveness. diving is cheating trying to get a penalty called against the opposing team. diving in soccer is like flopping in basketball. not the most aggressive of plays.

[mod] please, don't spell out curse words on this site [/mod]

Er, that was my point. I know it's cheating and it's a ***** move in my opinion.

[mod] you too  [/mod]

is it a ***** move? sure probably. but it is a player trying to gain an advantage, no different than an o line man holding (essentially saying, you're too good, so i'm going to cheat) or a wide reciever pushing off (essentially again saying, you're too fast, or too good, so i'm going to cheat). everyone tries to gain advantages in their sport, and that is the way soccer players do it. would you call Shaq a ***** because he does a little overacting on some calls? or Micheal Irvin a ***** because he pushed off about 19 times a game?

Said Football fan right here (Soccer).

For a start, most of the criticism that US football takes from Europe is made by Rugby fans - not soccer fans.

Rugby players wear no padding (maybe two or three in a team of 15 will wear some type of ear protection or a small shoulder pad) in a game that many would consider to be more brutal than US football. Head injuries are a big problem in the game of Rugby, but over here in blighty, if your not man enough, dont play!

The reason for people over here taking the rise out of US football is that it is a modified copy of Rugby, but they see it as a Holywood 'glam' version of it - The music pumping out between plays, the flash uniforms and helmets, the cheerleaders etc etc.

MY PERSONAL FEELINGS are that I love US football, I love the uniforms and I always say that the padding is for US football's different style of tackling compared to Rugby. You guys 'hit' a player, whereas in Rugby we 'tackle' a player in a more conventional style.

The cheerleaders are a great way of getting the fans more involved. We dont have cheerleaders because most of our 'birds' sit in pubs all day getting fat arses!!! We are the land of the FAT arse!

Cheers

Andy

I just said that to put anyone down he may be playing that sport. I just think it's very ironic for a soccer player to say football is a wussy sport, when soccer is where you're kicking a ball around. Football is a much gritty, physical sport. I mean a player at least can use his hands and carry the ball and throw and breaktackles, etc. If there's a player that has the right to say that football is a wuss sport than his sport is a rugby player or an hockey player, or NHL player. Rugby is more physical and Hockey is about even. Those checks against the wall can be vicious. I played soccer back in the day, I'm not calling anyone who plays the sport that, just that specific person

hi, actually i love soccer and im a soccer player and a football player; and i play for my contry in football too (Uruguay) and i think that if u don't know much of the sport and u don't actually play it, i would tell u not to talk about it... soccer is something totally diferent than american football.. its like compareing marbles to baseball... i mean.. they are two different sports...
and of course all americans don't really know soccer that much... i myself am a southamerican soccer lover, as well as i love football too and know what to play soccer and football means...:tantrum:

i bet many football players can't handle a soccer match either..
