We cut Brandon Marshall.
I was trying to justify why we did it. I had it down to two reasons: 1) Manning didn't want a diva WR and preferred Wayne or 2) Our team was self destructing and going into "rebuilding mode" and had given up on Manning. Both of those seemed slightly illogical to me, so I couldn't wrap my head around it. Until this report about Marshall being in an altercation where he allegedly may have slugged some girl.
Ahh.
Marshall was once a selling point for Manning. A number 1 WR to work with, pro bowl caliber even. But he suddenly became a liability. My guess is if we didn't trade him, he was getting cut. And thank god we traded him before the story broke, which is another reason I'm sure we're in lockdown mode.
A vote for Miami was going to be a vote of confidence for Marshall and Manning would never advocate that. He wouldn't tarnish his squeaky clean image by choosing the team who's WR is as unstable as Marshall. The guy was the iceberg that was going to sink the SS MANNING. If Marshall was still on our team when news broke of this, Manning would never have even visited Philbin.
We kept it under wraps and traded him and somehow managed to get two 3rd round picks from someone who was going to be cut anyway. It's clear by the way they handled the toxic situation Marshall created that the Dolphins are trying to keep their image as positive as possible and lure Manning to Miami.
