We cut Brandon Marshall.

I was trying to justify why we did it. I had it down to two reasons: 1) Manning didn't want a diva WR and preferred Wayne or 2) Our team was self destructing and going into "rebuilding mode" and had given up on Manning. Both of those seemed slightly illogical to me, so I couldn't wrap my head around it. Until this report about Marshall being in an altercation where he allegedly may have slugged some girl.

Ahh.

Marshall was once a selling point for Manning. A number 1 WR to work with, pro bowl caliber even. But he suddenly became a liability. My guess is if we didn't trade him, he was getting cut. And thank god we traded him before the story broke, which is another reason I'm sure we're in lockdown mode.

A vote for Miami was going to be a vote of confidence for Marshall and Manning would never advocate that. He wouldn't tarnish his squeaky clean image by choosing the team who's WR is as unstable as Marshall. The guy was the iceberg that was going to sink the SS MANNING. If Marshall was still on our team when news broke of this, Manning would never have even visited Philbin.

We kept it under wraps and traded him and somehow managed to get two 3rd round picks from someone who was going to be cut anyway. It's clear by the way they handled the toxic situation Marshall created that the Dolphins are trying to keep their image as positive as possible and lure Manning to Miami.

If Marshall had to be the sacrificial lamb to get Peyton, I'm all for it. But I just don't see it.

Thats not proof, thats an opinion.

Manning stated he viewed Marshall as an asset.

Please tell me, when Manning looks at our recieving corps now, where is his go-to guy? Marshall is gone. Reggie Wayne has re-signed with Indy. Garcon is not available. A rookie WR even as good as Blackmon is still a rookie and not ready to contribute.

So, where is Mannings incentive to come to Miami?

Think long befoe offering an answer...

You're right. I've cooled about the Marshall trade and don't get me wrong that's my favorite player(on the field) in the NFL. But we could still land manning.

So you read the first line of my post and then decided to respond?

Because if you bothered reading anything ELSE i wrote, you would have realized that Manning would rather play with decent receivers he could make better than advocate a guy who slugs women in the face.

It was a PR move, a face saving trade that allowed Miami to take the moral high ground and look good to Manning. Keeping a woman abuser would only push Manning further away.

Hope you bothered reading this response entirely.

And who are our "decent" receivers?

By the way, the Bears already said they knew about the incident before the trade. So your under wraps arguement is ridiculous.

1) Of course the bears knew about it, the Dolphins were TRADING HIM to them, duh. They'd have to disclose it or the Bears would never sign off on it. Kind of like how you get a background check before you get a job?

2) Decent receivers is an understatement. Bess, Hartline, Gates. Bess catches nearly anything you throw his way. Hartline has made incredible sideline catches with both feet in bounds, some for touchdowns. Gates can torch down the sideline with his speed. Figure you pick up another in the draft (blackmon?) or FA (Wayne) and who cares about Marshall anymore?

Dose anyone expect PM to openly state he doesn't want to play with X player - not going to happen - but behind closed doores - but let's be honest there were about 10 reasons to let this Diva go

It's not necessarily about openly stating "I dont want to play with this guy" its what the media would say. If we got Fisher and he brought in Greg Williams, Manning wouldnt even consider us because of the bounties. It's bad PR and that's all this is.

Manning couldn't sign with the dolphins if we were embroiled in a scandal involving our top WR, the guy he'd be throwing passes to. Simple as that.

1) Then what are you talking about with keeping the Marshall incident under wraps? You were screaming how good it was to trade him before it went public? What does it matter when we made the trade with the other team knowing anyway? makes no sense.

2) you are grossly overrating our WR core and losing a guy who drew double teams consistently won't help Hartline/Bess/Gates get open. By the way we aren't getting Blackmon unless we move up. From what I hear about Philbin and draft picks...thats not happening.

Also you don't keep up with the FA...Wayne is gone along with most decent FA WRs. Maybe some research before hypotheticals would be nice.

I seriously doubt Miami cutting Marshall had anything to do with Peyton Manning. Do you think Manning said, "I will not play QB for Miami unless you cut Marshall?" NO, that never happened. They are two completely separate issues. Marshall wore out his welcome and was dealt away...simple as that.

Out of the hundreds of BS posts of late this one is the best. We are not even in the mix on Manning and the Marshall trade is completely unrelated, that will come out eventually mark it 8!

I agree...def did not happen unless Manning was here. We wouldn't get rid of someone for a chance at picking someone else up.

Peyton Manning is no longer an option here. I could absolutely say we would still be in the running IF we signed Wayne and trade Marshall. But I won't even be excited now if we get Manning, he has no one to throw to. You don't win now by drafting a WR in the first round, Manning wants a team that is ready right now. I was all up for getting Manning but it's over now. Look at this from Manning's point of view. There is no receivers now.

Best case scenario right now: Sign Flynn, draft/trade down and draft a WR in 1st. POSSIBLY, trade up for Blackmon but I doubt it.
Worst case scenario (which I think will happen more than anything): Try to trade up or hope Tannehill is there at number 8. He won't be and we get stuck with Moore. I think Moore is better then Henne, but Marshall also helped out with that.

I completely agree, but not a fan of scenarios. Don't have one of my own after how this offseason has gone so far....
