lack of depth at various positions on the team. Your plan can include draftees or free agents. Some positions are obviously in need, such as OL. But assess all positions and submit a plan of action (can include trades). Many of us act like we are general managers. Well, put your plan to the test.

QB-Easy for me because it's not my system but I would give Carr a 2 yr deal incentive laden that protects him if he becomes the starter. He doesn't cost a draft pick and can compete with C-Pep in camp. I look to draft Stanton if at all possible in the 2nd rd. C-Pep isn't the starter he gets traded for pick next year or cut. Unless they can do a draft day deal with the Raiders for a pick this year.

QB- unless Quinn falls I say Stanton in 2nd or someone later in draft. This is Mueller's specialty so I expect a pick to be used on QB.
RB - mid rd pick used on rb position. If they get RW back - great but we need to draft a backup.
FB - all set there unless someone falls in draft or FA
TE - all set there unless someone falls in draft or FA
OL - we need a dominant center! #1 need IMO even over LT. Hadnot is not dominant. Kalil prob not there in 2nd rd. Maybe FA pickup with June cuts. We need to spend a pick or two on the OL but NOT in the 1st rd.
WR - we need a burner in the draft. 2nd or 3rd rd pick if someone falls.

DL - 1st rd pick if NT is there we want like Branch or the young kid.
DE - maybe mid rd pick to start to groom.
DB - if we don't go NT I say get best DB like Hall if there in 1st rd.
Safety - all set there unless someone falls in draft or FA
LB -definitely need help in draft here. We don't have a good record of success at LB over the years.

I wouldn't discount a trade for an OL guy at some point. Especially for a center! That would be my guess for an upgrade approach because there isn't much in FA unless there is someone released down the road.

Draft-
1. Laron Landry
2. Joe Staley
2a Steve Smith
3 Kevin Kolb
4. Lorenzo Booker/ LB prospect that i have no clue about
6. Project OL
7. TE
7. LB

FA
Matt Lehr- Compete at center/LG. (more for Center)
Gandy or R Brown for a 1yr stop gap for competition
David Carr
thats it for now imma have to do more research on whats still out there FA wise

Sign either Cooper Carlisle or Matt Lehr via free agency. I'm going to assume Ricky's coming back, he's effective, and very affordable. And I'll trade a 7th to KC for Trent Green. I'll also assume the second 6th rounder doesn't happen seeing as how we can't locate a 6'4" 340 Big Daddy.

Draft option 1. Trade 9th overall, 40th overall to Detroit for 2nd overall and select Brady Quinn.

Draft option 2. Stand pat at 9th overall and take Ted Ginn Jr.

Going with option 1, I draft the rest of the following:

2. Jonathan Wade
3. Doug Datish
4. Jacoby Jones
6. Kasey Studdard
7. Desmond Bishop

or Option Two.

2. Joe Staley
2. Drew Stanton
3. Eric Wright
4. Enoka Lucas
6. Zach Latimer
7. Dane Uperesa

This would then be my ideal depth chart (going with option 1 - my personal preference)

QB Green, Quinn, Lemon
RB Brown, Ricky, Germaine Race (UDFA)
FB Schlesinger, Eckel
WR Chambers, Jones, Hakim
WR Booker, Hagan, Vick - Kelly Campbell to Practice Squad
TE Martin, Peelle, Rader/Massaquoi
LT Alabi/Shelton - TC battle
LG Carlisle, Studdard
C Datish
RG Hadnot, Toledo
RT Carey, loser of Alabi/Shelton battle

OE Taylor, A. Gbaja-Biamila
DT Holliday, M. Wright, Vickerson
NT Traylor, Evans
DE Roth, R. Wright
LB Crowder, Pope
LB Thomas, Warren
LB Porter, Maxwell
CB Wade, Daniels, Lehan
FS J. Allen/Hill battle, loser is backup
SS Bell, Worrell
CB W. Allen, Goodman

K Feely
P D. Jones
LS Denney
KR Hakim
PR Vick

don't get carr, don't get green, get brady quinn by trading up and we have a franchise quarterback for the next 10 years

i like this one but you would have to give up more than #9 and #40 for the #2 pick. and i would also like a WR in the draft. one like meachem or jarrett or ginn if they fall. but it looks like ginn fell buit is on his way back up. jarrett is gonna fall with his 4.6 40. it looks like meachem will be taken by one of the later first round picks, like chargers, KC.

If they keep the #9 pick, then get the best possible player that fills a need. It doesn't have to be a major need, but any possible area of weakness.

Look for sliding value with the 2nd and 3rd round picks. If it's an offensive lineman all the better, but I wouldn't handcuff myself to that. This team could use help in a lot of places.

Look for good offensive lineman projects, QB projects and WR's in rounds 4-7 if you haven't gone there already. These are rounds where you can reach a bit if necessary.

Look for depth near the end of free agency and through training camp. We could find some useful veterans at a good price. We've let go of so many players I'm not sure how good our depth will be this coming year, but then again I wouldn't expect to cure all our ills in one offseason either.

Draft option #1
*trade our 40th along with the 9th for detroit's second
1st: Quinn
2nd: Brian Robinson
3rd: samson satale
4th: ryan harris
5th: mlb
6th: qb ( i couldn't resist)
7th: cb

I forgot to add to throw in cpep ( in the detroit trade) , then trade a sixth or seventh for green.

Well, I'm gonna focus more on position in after Round 2. As I must confess, I'm not too versed on much talent outside of the top guys. Keep in mind, most of my "guys" are driven by my draft plan by position.

Round 1 - Levi Brown LT
Round 2a - Justin Blalock LG
Round 2b - Samson Satele C
Round 3 - DT (Paul Soliai)
Round 4 - QB (Jared Zabransky or Jeff Rowe)
Round 6 - CB
Round 7a - RB
Round 7b - DE

EDIT: As you can see, I solely intend on solving our long term OLine problems in one draft. It's time we stopped playing around with this problem. It must be solved before we do anything else.. in my mind.

Who in their right mind would trade for Daunte FumblePepper? Face it, the Fins were stupid to sign him in the first place. Drew Brees looks like a pretty good pick up now.:sidelol:

He has looked like a pretty good pick up since the year he entered the NFL draft, yet we passed on him not ONCE, but TWICE.

If he was on your team back in '04 you wouldn't mind him! I think we sent a draft pick for a guy named Feeley. 2nd rder right? I'm not a C-Pep fan but at the time all of the analysts thought he would put Miami over the top. The only people calling that trade stupid are doing it now as a MMQB. At the time getting a pro bowl QB for a 2nd was great value even though he had the injury.

I have us drafting Jacoby Jones a WR out of Lane. There's probably another late round pick involved in the Detroit deal, you're right about that.
