I would like to propose a change to the avatar policy that prohibits swim suit pictures in avatars.
The staff faces this issue nearly every day and having to make judgment calls over what I believe to be a policy in need of change. We have members who have bathing suit pictures and when we ask them to change their avatars, they point at avatars like the one below. You can imagine how difficult it is for staff to fight that fight all the time.
The reason behind the prohibition was to prevent off-topic discussion but, in reality, if someone is distracted by a picture of a bathing suit clad woman, it is not the fault of the avatar but of the poster's short attention span and immaturity.
I believe that the reason why it is so hard to set a boundary is because we are seeking to prohibit something that anyone who has visited a public pool or the beach has seen.
Rather than make artificial barrier and prohibit some decent material but preclude others, why not just prohibit lewd, nude or overly suggestive avatars?
Since you folks are our board of directors, you have a say in any policy changes. With that in mind, I'd like to open the floor for discussion and a vote in a week's time.
