Man, talk about big players stepping up in big games. Down by 2 with 2 runners on and 2 outs in the top of the 9th, Albert Pujols hits a 3-run homer off of Houston's dynamic closer Brad Lidge. I wouldn't be suprised if this wins carries the Cardinals to the Series.
 
Best player in baseball no doubt. He had a bomb that probably would have landed in the Gulf of Mexico or in OK depending on where Minute Maid faces. Lidge has been very shakey in his recent outings and it's something to look for in the next game(s). If St. Louis can beat both Oswalt and Clemens then they deserve it however it's still a tough road ahead for them.
 
I think it was insane PITCHING to Pujols....

I don't care how good Lidge is, you don't pitch to Pujols in that situation, walk him and let the immortal Reggie Sanders beat you.

That being said, wow was that a BOMB.

I agree, plus Sanders has a bad back. Of course Phil Gardner was sleeping like usual. I'm shocked he pinch hit Bruntlet with Jose Vizicaino instead of Jeff Bagwell, even with his bum shoulder. All they needed was a bomb to tie it especially with the short LF.

Wait a sec. Rather than have the go-ahead run at the plate, and needing a home run to go ahead, you'd put to go-ahead run at first, with a single tying the game and a double giving St. Lou the lead? No way. Garner made the right call; Brad Lidge is the league's best closer for a reason, you go with him and trust him to get Pujols out. Sometimes you make the right call and it doesn't work out. Garner did nothing wrong here. You can't just run scared from Pujols.

I disagree, Pujols is having a great series at the plate and although Lidge is the best closer in the NL this year, he's been extremely shakey in the playoffs thus far. I'd rather have Reggie Sanders try to beat me then Pujols.
 
I was watching the MNF game at my friend Crusty's house and he was switching back and forth between football and the NLCS. I almost threw my slice of pizza when Pujols hit it out. What a clutch player Pujols is....unlike A-Rod who choked when the game was on the line. I am hoping the White Sox win the Series no matter who the NL team is.

Geez still all this hate for A-Rod, even after the fact that his mommy asked the fans to be nice to him. :lol:

I'd run scared of Pujols all day...

You bet I walk him. I'll take my chances with Reggie Sanders over Albert Pujols every time.

If that was Barry Bonds would you walk him? I bet you do...and Pujols is a better hitter then Bonds.

I probably would have walked him. I mean first off, he can't hit, let Sanders prove his worth. Second of all, lets see they tie the game, Pujols wouldn't be playing in Overtime, because they probably would have pinch ran for him.
 
Hindsight is 20/20 most if not all managers in baseball would not have walked Pujols. You dont put the tieing run in scoring position and the winning run on base. You have your best reliever on the mound, all he has to do is keep the ball in the park. The reliever fed him a fat pitch, Garner trusted his best reliever to keep the ball in the park, didnt work out. I dont place even an ounce of the blame on Garner.
 
Why do the Baseball gods hate Biggio so? GIVE THE MAN A RING! My favorite player and he'll never win a championship no matter what he does, including getting on base 3 times in game 5 and still losing!
 
Way back in 1980 (When Roman was 14) I got to see the Phillies and Astros NLCS on tv....probably the best playoff series ever.....Nolan Ryan had a 5-2 lead on my Phils in the 8th when the wheels came off for Houston...my Phils came back and won the NLCS and then won the World Series over Kansas City with Tug McGraw, Steve Carlton, Mike Schmidt.....1980 is the only time in the Phil's 125 year history that they won a World Series. My dad who is from Philly, and I were jumping up and down and screaming. That was one of the happiest moments of my life. :)
