Twice we punted inside New England's 36 yard-line on 4th and 6 or less!!! Why did we not either go for it or try for the FG in both situations!!! That is just poor coaching, and it shows a lack of confidence both your offense (because you don't think they can get the first) and your defense (because you don't think they can stop them if you don't make the 1st down or FG)!!!

And to top it off, Jones fumbled one of them, and New England got the ball with better field position than if we had tried the FG and missed!!!

The first time I saw them line up for the punt, I shook my head and quietly thought to myself "game over". Later in the game when they lined up to punt the second time, I wanted to bash my TV!!!

Hey Saban, when it's 4th and 5 on the opponent's 35, GO FOR IT!!!:fire:

omg omg i was thinking the same thing!!!!!!!!!! when you get a turnover you have to take advantage of them! wtf saban

Amen!!

This conservative philosophy is in stark contrast to BB, who went for it on 4th repeatedly and kept the pressure on our D.

1. Mare blows.
2. Coaches are too conservative and content to keep it close b/c...
3. Saban thinks his defense will win the game.

Much like Wanny...this team/coaches play not to lose rather than to win.

When you play a team better than yourself (NE in this case) you have to be agressive. You will never beat a better team by playing that conservative. This is giving me Wanny flashbacks

GOOD OL saint NICK cost us this game....the no replay flag ...2 punts errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr FG tries....nice job NICK

I mean if u think about it, despite the mishandled punt and the other time . . . the defense came thru both times and didn't allow NE to score. So its paid off. I thought they were the correct calls considering our D was dominant and we still were only down 3 points. I mean if Saban goes for it both times, and we miss . . . and NE does something with the good Field position, we are sitting here talking about "OUr defense was playing so good, why not punt and pin them back". Double edged sword.

ON a good field, I think he tries FG atleast on one of them, but the field was crap.

i agree nick should take the blaim. chambers picked up the first on a spectacular play. you challenge it for the guy who you need that has struggled. instead he shows no trust in his team and punts. punts twice in field goal range. but at the same time, joey needs to get the ball in field goal range. when you get it at the 40 and cant get a field goal, your qb needs to be held accountable

Saban = gurly man with no balls.

If you don't feel you can make a long field goal with Mare, why not try for a first down?....our defense was playing well enough to stop them. So if we don't get the first down they still start at the 35, why not try for a first?

NOOOO, Saban got scared TWICE.

It's a damned if you do and damned if you don't call. You'd be complaining about how Nick should have punted if Mare would have shanked them or if we wouldn't have gotten a first. And not to mention, the first one you cannot blame Nick because it's not his fault Jones fumbled it. The second one, I do believe we have two 5 yard penalties that brought us back to the 45. Thus creating a 62 yard field goal or something? Our offensive line and special teams made some crucial mistakes in my opinion.

Did you see that field it was all mud in the middle, that was one of the worst conditions I have ever seen a football field in.

I think it's a good call because the last thing you need to do is give the Pats better field position. The D was dominant and could hold their own. If Mare pulled a Vandershank then everyone would have went crazy here.. well crazier.

I feel bad for Nicky here. Damned no matter what. :)

It was a field position game.

You don't go for it on 4th and 5 at the other teams 35 yard line in a 3 point football game. You punt and keep field position weighed in your favour. Seems pretty fundamental to me.

It also doesn't help when you can't trust your kicker.
