Players can only be put on the PUP at the start of training camp. If players are put on the PUP at the start of training camp, they can come off of the PUP at anytime during training camp. Once the season starts, they are ineligible to come off until week 10. If players are on the active roster at the start of training camp, they are ineligible for the PUP.OG54 said:Can someone please explain to me why guys like McKinney & Poole are possibly going to be on the IR as opposed to the PUP list where they could be cleared to play after the 10th game?

The problem is that if it is not very likely that the player will return than you are will have to sign another player to replace them, and if the player CAN return you have to make a very difficult cut decision mid-season.
