Considering what has played out. hypothetically…what would you pick. Skylar Thompson making the team OR Byron Jones being healthy and good to go week one? I think that’s a tough one, make your pick. There’s no point to the thread other than you guys opinions for entertainment.

YES one is long term and potentially one is short but? I’m actually leaning towards Jones being good to go. I do like skylar alot but Jones is pretty much irreplaceable and losing him could be the different between winning and losing.

Would I rather have had Jones healthy now, rather than Thompson showing he belongs long term?

If that is the question, then no... not really.

QBs are the name of the game in the NFL, while Jones is a 30 year old guy who might not even be with us next year.

I generally take the long view; team-building is my interest.

I'd take Jones week 1 one... Odds of the Fins winning a SB this season are higher than they have been for as long as I can remember and missing Bryron almost a 1/4 of a season plays a role on these odds... OTOH, odds are that Thompson never amounts to anything more than a journey man QB whether he makes the team or not... easy game.

Absolutely spot on.

I'll go further though.

In reality I think we would be better off long term drafting a #2 corner and shedding Jones salary when it's feasible.

Not because he isn't a good corner. He is. I just think if you have a #1 corner, a great young safety like Holland and a pass rush the resources are better allocated elsewhere.

If we can play strong defense without Jones (While on PUP) I think that actually speaks well to our defenses long term potential.

I think we will be fine without Jones, he is not exactly some interceptions Machine 😂😂

We’ll see how the season goes but as of right now I’d be pretty surprised if we aren’t picking a CB or OT with the 9ers first next year

Yeah agreed.

It's way too early to speculate but right now I expect the pick to be on the defensive side of the ball.

They could try to put corner off one more year with Jones or target someone in the 2nd/3rd round range too.

I could see a CB or LB being the first pick depending where it is, who is available and how much depth in the draft there is. LB would have to either be a Parsons type can't miss or if the pick is late first IMO
.

Also though OT is very possible.

Jones week 1 in a heart beat. We are past the "building for the long term"

We have the team to win right now, and the first 4 games are incredibly pivotal to the AFC race. 2 div games.... the reigning AFC champion.... and the Ravens

Give me my Jones back

Agree completely...

Jones is a guy that half the board wanted to get rid of, but now... it's a completely different tune.

If Iggy or Kohou can replace him next year, we're golden.

Weird isn't it. A lot of the "Jones sucks" ppl now have their panties in a bunch because he isn't ready to go.
