Q&A: Jarvis Landry on art of catching

i like the guy so far but to many people have elevated him to a position he hasn't deserved. After he does it in a handful of Sundays I'll be down with the continual praise. For now he is a rookie who hasn't proven to be a started in the NFL.

I might take Landry as my 3rd or 4th WR in my fantasy league. Hopefully he will get a good amount of playing time.

Hartline is reliable as they come yes I know he dropped a ball vs buffalo but that's 1 instance. He had 3 drops last year out of 70+ catches

Brian Hartline's body control is overrated. He has good awareness of the sidelines, and he times his fall well. That's not really body control. Many times, Hartline is off balance or unable to fight back for the football, because his body control is suspect at best. Hartline, more than any player on Miami, benefits from Tannehill's skill set. Hartline's best route is Tannehill's best throw - the sideline comeback. Without a QB who favors that route and has the arm talent to throw it at the NFL level, Hartline is JAG.

If you want to see body control, watch Jarvis Landry.

He's a very good route runner. He knows how to use his head and hips. His ability to sink his hips and use his head to sell routes is pretty damn good. He knows how to diagnose coverages and is a savvy player.

Yet he has terrible form catching the football. Everyone thinks he has great hands, when he doesn't. They are barely average.

My retort was simply that he is not a body catcher. He knows how to use his hands. May not be the best (most certainly not terrible) but he knows how to use 'em and go up for the ball.

Are you kidding me? Hartline has poor body control? Just stop.

Great OP. Hartline derail turning this into a horrible thread however.

Jarvis Landry is a football player...loves contact and understands the nuances of the game...add in his giant, soft hands and an attitude coaches dream of and you have, at the very least, a solid 10 year pro.

He doesn't really use them too often. Watch any slant, combeback, curl, out, post, etc route. He tends to use his body. Yeah, he will use his hands sometimes but he favors using his body.

Nah. Sorry. There's a reason you received so many thumbs down. Though sometimes catches are determined by how and where the ball is thrown in a route and dictated by coverage, Hartline uses his hands quite often, regardless.

Let's watch together. :brewskis:

About as close to consensus as you get around here that this guy is a good one.It might be hard to keep him off the field even in our base two 2 wide out offense.
Good to see you posting again Truth

Yeah, no. That's the most absurd thing I've heard. Why don't you take a look at the last 2 games of the season and see why we lost it. Hartline had awful drops against Buffalo because he was letting the ball hit his chest.

Do you really think being thumbs down on this forum means I'm wrong?

That's why I posted a video for you to "watch". In the past two seasons Hartline has 150 receptions and has had a mere 12 drops.

You're wrong because of what you posted, not b/c of others thumbing you down. I pity you If you somehow believe we lost to the Bills in wk16 for anything other than lack of pass protection (7 sacks). Also, kinda hard to analyze Hartline in our last 2 games considering he was hurt in the first quarter of the Jet's game. Eh, I'm done here.

Anyways, apologies to the OP.

He's right about Hartline. It does not mean Brian Hartline is a bad player. I like Brian Hartline, even if he gets tackled by grass with depressing frequency.

But the idea that Hartline is a great hands catcher, I'm sorry, I don't think that's at all supported by the entirety of his receiving opportunities.

:bobdole: Again, my retort to Robert Horry was that Hartline uses his hands and plenty of the time. Just watch Hartline's '13 video above. Not trying to raise Hartline to an elite status or anything of the sort. He's just not a body catcher like Wallace as you rarely see Mike with his arms extended from his body and palms outwardly facing the ball.
