Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown Q&A

5/18/2006

(On if he has gained any weight) – “Not really. I lost a little bit and then kind of gained a little bit back lifting.â€Â

(On if he is trying to get ready for more carries this year) – “Yeah, I have been working hard in the offseason. I have that in the back of my mind that I will have to take on the duty of carrying the load a little bit more, but I am excited about it.â€Â

(On what he thinks he needs to improve from last year) – “I think it’s just getting off to a quicker start. Last year, unfortunately I missed camp and I think that slowed me down a little bit, but this year I have had a pretty good start, been through the offseason and things looks pretty good. I feel pretty good so I am excited to see what happens.â€Â

(On what the Dolphins players think about the possibility of Ricky Williams playing in the CFL) – “I don’t think anyone has mentioned it, really. I think everybody is just focused on what we have to do and how we can get better as a team.â€Â

(On if his has noticed that Daunte Culpepper’s throws travel very fast, as Channing Crowder said) – “Not yet. Fortunately I think that is a good thing for us if Channing thinks they are going fast. Hopefully we’ll be the ones catching them and not those guys on the other side.â€Â

(On if gets tired of getting asked if he can carry the load) – “A little bit, but I am excited about it. Like I said, it’s the first time that I actually get the opportunity to start the season off with having to carry the load. I did it one season in college, but I don’t think you can compare that to this level. â€Â

(On his initial reaction to Ricky Williams getting suspended) – “That was one of those unfortunate things. I was kind of disappointed in the fact that something like that happened, but at the same time I was excited getting the opportunity to do a few more things and being asked to do a little more on the offensive side of the ball.â€Â

(On if has talked to Ricky Williams since he lost his appeal) – “No, I haven’t.â€Â

(On if he is more confident) – “Yeah, I am a little more confident. I think it just comes with being a little bit more comfortable going in to my second year. I got the feel of how things work and everything is going pretty smooth and I don’t have to worry about too much.â€Â
(On if he was helped last year by not having to carry the complete load) – “Yeah, I think so. I think that was helpful to have someone like Ricky that I could learn from and, at the same time, split carries with, ease in to it, and get the feel for it. I think that was helpful and going into this season, I feel a little bit more comfortable.â€Â

(On what he weighed at the end of last season and what he wants to weigh at the start of next season) – “I ended up at about 235 and I am around that area now and I want to play this season at about 230, somewhere around there.â€Â

(On how much he heard from Cadillac Williams about his winning Offensive Rookie of the Year) – “Not a lot. That’s not one of those things we talk about, stuff like that. I congratulated him, but he’s really not one of those people that boasts or brags. He mentioned it, but it was just having fun.â€Â

(On how different the feel of the NFL is versus college) – “It’s just a little different. The intensity is a little bit more. The guys are faster, bigger, stronger, so you have to know what you are doing. When you make that initial move, on this level, you have to pretty much stick with it. I think it’s been helpful seeing guys like Zach (Thomas) on the other side of the ball that have obviously been successful on this level to get the tempo. Those guys are pretty fast on that side. Fortunately, we have a good defense so when the game comes, I’m pretty prepared for it.â€Â

(On if his rookie season surpassed his expectations) – “It depends on how you look at it. I feel like I came in and did what was asked, but for myself, I just expect a lot more. I put a lot of pressure on myself.â€Â

(On if he feels like he has to be more of a leader) – “Not really. We have a lot of guys that take on that role, a lot of veteran guys so I’m not too much of a vocal person. I’ll play around, have a little bit of fun, but for the most part, I just want to go in, work hard and give some of the younger guys someone to look at as a model for going out and working hard.â€Â

(On what newcomers have impressed him) – “A guy like Kelly Campbell. He works hard and comes in with a lot of energy and gets everybody going. That’s good. There are a lot of guys out there doing everything that’s asked.â€Â

(On how this year is different than last year) – “I think last year, just talking to Coach Saban, he pretty much told me before the season he was going to work me in and help me to adjust. I think we did a great job last year. This year going in to it, I think there is a little bit more asked of me to do as far as being a second-year guy, getting a feel for it and having to take on that role of being the main guy.â€Â

(On if the team needs to acquire another backup running back) – “I don’t think so. I think we a few guys that are capable of doing it – Sammy Morris, we have Gerald Riggs this year, Kay-Jay Harris, Travis Minor. I think between the group of us, we can do a good job.â€Â

(On hooften he looks at replays of his touchdown run against Kansas City) – “I have seen it a couple time when we watch film, but for the most part I try not to go back look at stuff like that. I look forward to this season.â€Â

(On how many times he has kidded Jason Allen for running him over in their college days) – “We haven’t even said anything about it. I just welcomed him to the team. I saw him at the Heat game the other day. I am just looking forward to what he does with the Dolphins.â€Â

interesting, seems to be a nice guy, easy going....not how i thought he was when we first drafted him, but then again i didnt know his personality that well.....

I loved the interview. He looked huge, in great shape and seemed much more vibrant and media happy than I've seen him before. He really looked like a comfortable superstar on the podium.

I like the way he answerd some of those questions, to me it sounds like he is ready to get the season started. I can't wait to c what he does with more carries.

I have that in the back of my mind that I will have to take on the duty of carrying the load a little bit more,

HE BETTER have it more than just "in the back of his mind"!!

as the 2nd pic overall, i want to hear "i'm comin', look out", not
"i got in the back of my mind".

what has suprised me most about ronnie so far is how timid he
seems to be at times. yeah, he had a couple good moments last
year, but i want to see more intensity from the guy! i want to
see a lot of the knock downs like he delivered to jason allen!

2nd pic over all, he is going to have to start producing big
numbers and double digit td's ala ladanian tomlinson and
be amongst the top 3 year in and out to be worthy of that
slot and the huge money he is getting!

1100 yds and 8tds won't be worth it.

hope he takes his game to a much higher level!!
