QB Drought coming to the NFL?

There is no drought coming...the league will change and will be more like college. It has already begun with Wilson, Kaepernick, RGIII, etc. In 10 years you may be asking why we stuck with Tannehill who may be considered a "dinosaur" at that time...

The article actually goes into Kapernick and RGIII and the rise of the spread QB in the NFL. It doesn't work as well in the NFL and all the successful spread QBs will have a more difficult time to adjust in the pros because of the speed, just as RGIII and Kaep have after their initial success. They are actually the prime examples in the article of why there might be a drought coming.
 
The spread offense is just a fad. These things run in cycles. The traditional drop back QB offense will be back.

I think you will start to see more pro-style QBs being developed in high school and college. Why? It's a little cause and effect. Unlike the NFL, college programs live and die on recruiting talent. It seems that more programs went to the spread in order to offset their talent deficiencies as compared to the top schools. The spread also allows teams to get their talent on the field earlier because many of the position concepts are easier to grasp.

As schools compete more heavily for talent, a coaching staff can really differentiate itself by selling recruits on pro-style systems that will have them prepared to play at the next level. Players will always look for that edge to get to the next level. Eventually that demand will cause more programs to switch back to pro-style offenses.
 
tannehill can play in any offense and so if the league does in fact go the way of the spread/read option/pistol vs the traditional pocket passer qb that's no big deal for us...but it's not gonna...always comes back around to the same thing pocket and progression

it's the qbs that cant play in the traditional pocket and go thru progressions who won't last unless they are propped up

You really think Kapernick and RGIII are the future? If anything they are quickly spiraling down hill and I wouldn't be shocked if they are replaced next year. RGIII and Mike Vick are examples why team will not go to the spread/option read....because the QB will get killed and not hold up. To me, the teams that run the spread option are using that system to play to that specific QB's strength. Wilson is an exception because he is a much better pure passer and decision maker. I think Cam Newton is an exception as well because of his tremendous size, he can take the hits. Guys like that don't grow on trees.

And anyways Tannehill is athletic enough to run the spread option so I don't really understand why you question his future 10 years from now if you believe the league will change in that direction?

Really? Cause RG3 and Kap have been that successful?? This is a qb driven league that is centred on the passing game.... The way the college game is played, in regards to running qbs, and offences centred around that is only good in colleges because of the lack of consistent talent on defence, and I juries as well... The focus of the league will remain with pocket passers for the most part because injuries and stellar defensively players and schemes won't let it happen
