I keep hearing national media claim that the Jets have a better roster (outside of QB) than the Dolphins. I was just listening to Albert Breer interview on WFAN and he said that the Dolphins have the 2nd best QB in the AFCE, but doesn't have a better overall roster than Bills or Jets. I get the Bills, they have a better roster top to bottom outside of QB. But the Jets? I just don't see it. How would you stack up each position group?

The way I see it:

RB: Dolphins
OL: Jets
TE: Dolphins
WR: Dolphins (I feel Marshall is on the downturn of his career, and he is a headcase prone to blowing up a bad offense. I do like Devin Smith though. The Dolphins WR corps has much more overall potential)

DL: Push
DE: Dolphins
LB: Jets
DB: Jets
S: Dolphins

K: Jets
P: Dolphins

On paper, Dolphins have a superior offense, even without including the QB. And the defenses are similar, though I will give the Jets the edge because of their strong DL and secondary.

Am I just wearing aqua-tinted glasses?

EDIT: Link to the Jets roster - http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/roster.html

On defense I give the edge to the Jets. On offense I give the edge to Miami.

I also don't think it's fair to put DE, because the Jets run a different defense than Miami does. Defensive line, linebacker and secondary all go to the Jets. The only specific position group on defense the Dolphins have the edge is safety.

I say its almost a wash if you only look at starters. IMO I think the real advantage the Phins have is depth. I think we are extremely deep in many areas and it will show in training camp, This is what will be the difference between these two teams come season's end

Miami has an outside rush in Wake. Jets don't. That's worth noting.

Why is it so important to exclude the QB? Last time I looked they were part of an NFL roster.

Because that's the narrative the national media keeps pushing. They keep talking up the Jets roster and I just don't understand the love affair. They specifically cite that if they just had a QB they'd be a contender. Yet, at the same time they treat the Dolphins roster like it's just some mediocre unit, seemingly completely disregarding the impact a monster like Suh will have.

I think there are a lot of areas where one team edges another roster-wise. But there are a few areas where one team is truly dominant.

QB: Miami ... but we are excluding that one.

CB: New York

TE: Miami, assuming Cameron stays healthy

WR: Miami, quality and depth are both simply superior

Overall our roster is stronger. Unfortunately, we lose the battle of the trenches. Both have dominant DL, but our weak links and injuries on OL mean our QB, TE and WR advantages are seriously impaired.

Their OL matches up better against our DL, because we are built to beat New England and lose to New York and Buffalo. Sad but true.

We win at all offensive positionsif Albert is healthy. Defense they win lb and secondary. We win d-line. By a hair. They win special teams.

I think it's tough to give us the advantage at S when you just know Delmas is unlikely to stay healthy. He's a very good player when he's on the field, but how reliable is that at this point?

fun thread concept, I guess, but I ride on the fact that our QB advantage is far superior to the Jets, Bills and first "x" games of the Pats.

Like, the Jets receiving core is more of a known/consistent advantage than ours, but then you amplify that by the quality of each team's QB.

The fins defnately have the better WR corps, and i agree it's a push on the Dline, everything else is not the dolphins clear cut. The Bills have a better roster, and this is still a jets team that got better that should have won 2 on us.

I'm a huge fin fan, and anything can happen, but talent wise I'm not going to be a homer. Pats are the "team" to beat, and the other two will be huge obstacles to cross.

Only position i'd give the jets a distinct advantage over us in would be the DBs , other then that I think were even or better then them across the board. My buddy is a jets fan and he wasn't pleased with them bringing on brandon marshall and not attempting to fix the qb position which is still there obvious issue.

They always treated the Fins that way, if New England would have landed Suh they would have crapped their pants.

then why these teams keep kicking our asses every year, it doesn't matter who has the better talent but which team has the bigger heart.
