QB has elevated games of backups - Great read!

"DAVIE - Dan Henning admits he never wanted Chad Pennington the first time around.

The Dolphins' offensive coordinator refers to 2000, when the Jets made Pennington the third of four first-round draft picks.

"I was hoping for a receiver to tell you the truth," said Henning, the Jets' offensive coordinator at the time."

Each week Pennington usually assigns Henne and Beck game film of opponents to break down. He wants a report on a defense's tendencies in different down-and-distance situations the next morning.

Gotta love it!

According to Pennington, learning from experienced veterans helped speed up his development. From Vinny Testaverde, the quarterback whom he served as an understudy, Pennington mimicked his detail-oriented nature, and learned the benefit of sharp practices.

He said Curtis Martin taught him about professionalism and work ethic, and Wayne Chrebet provided a blueprint for route running, and instilled the significance of perseverance

Destined to be a Coach!!

I haven't paid as much attention to Henne and Beck on the sideline lately. During the first couple games it seemed like Beck wasn't as involved as Henne was. It seemed that Pennington and Henne would always be talking and Beck would just stand there.

Has anybody noticed those 3 on the sideline lately? Does Beck seem more comfortable and involved in the conversations now?

I suddenly feel optimistic about our QB future. I just hope Penny stays with us two or three years longer.

Henne actually played in two games. But very nice article, read it in the paper this morning.

Ok, if you want to get all technical and count the Pats game in week 3 as Henne playing a game, then you might as well get it right.

Henne has played in 3 games. He handed the ball off the Cobbs for a 1 yd game against the Pats in week 12 with :31 left in the game

Didnt catch that one. Didnt he throw the ball in the NE game?

henne has the arm and accuracy and i think with penny teaching him the ins and outs of pro football he will become a top 10 qb in this league. also on a side note i for one hope that when the time is right which could be next year or two years from now, penny stays true to his word and stays a fin if he were to somehow lose out to henne (we all know at some point they will try it) he stays with the team as the back up because i feel like he is a coach on the field and i can see him being a jason garret type when he hangs them up, and hopefully we can benefit from that
