Quarterback of the future??

Why are all of you so preoccupied with the QB of the future?

I am concerned with the QB OF NOW! A QB in the future doesn't win us any games TODAY!

The thing I don't understand about you people that are so fixated on Beck/Henne/INSERTYOUNGNAMEHERE is that you expect one of these guys to be the next Dan Marino. IT WILL LIKELY NOT HAPPEN. QBs like Marino, Manning, Brady--these career franchise QBs are not a dime a dozen.

Even if we 'fix' our QB problem and find our "future QB" he might not be THAT good (look at Pennington, he was the Jets QB and they tossed him like dirty snot rag), he might get injured, he might hate a new coach, he might retire.

In my opinion, and this is directed at the fans, stop worrying about finding the next Marino or even the our next long term starter. Our next hero will come when he gets here, we're not going to force a young guy into being a hall of famer.

The team needs to worry about the now, who gives us the best chance to win. Now, I'm not saying stop developing young players, but develop them and be caution because they will likely be duds, most QBs are!

I say we keep drafting and developing young QBs, developing them in the background until one FLAT OUT beats Pennington in practice/pre-season.

"Put Henne in game one to see if he's good enough or not." That makes no sense!!!!! I'm so sick of hearing that. He needs to earn the job before he gets it first off. Second, Henne today will not be anywhere near as good as Henne in one year (likely) so give at least a year to get better before we give him 4-6 games to prove himself.

I hope we draft Tebow or Stafford in '09 and have two 22-23 year old guys developing while Pennington leads us for 2-3 years... forget about the QB of the future, he'll show up when he shows up!

Tebow or Stafford are likely top 15 picks next year. With so many needs and this team rebuilding, you want them to blow yet another high draft pick on a QB? Come on now.

Chad Henne is the guy they drafted to build this team around. Drafting another QB high means this front office didn't know what they were doing in the 08' draft and admit they blew their second round pick.

Chad Henne is not John Beck. I don't want to get into a Beck Vs Henne debate, but Beck is not the future of this team, Chad Henne is. They inherited Beck, they are giving him a legitimate shot, but ultimately, they drafted Henne to be "their guy".

The plan appears to be this. A veteran QB to be the starter for a year or two until Henne is ready to take full command of the offense. People need to face this as reality. The front office was hoping McCown could be that veteran, but it is obvious they changed their mind and Pennington is that guy.

Pennington is the quarterback of the present, and Henne is the quarterback of the future. Any QB drafted in the next few drafts by the Dolphins likely won't be until the 6th or 7th round. They have their quarterbacks.

agree.

people get too caught up in 2 things...

1) the salary cap. nobody passes out awards for staying under the cap. at some point ya gotta spend money and try and win

2) quarterback of the future. how about the QB of NOW!!!!!!!! It's tough to "give up seasons" in this league and not play for now. Rebuilding is one thing, but that doesn't mean you just sit your "future"

actually you made a brilliant point

I don't think it matters as long as you have a plan and stick to it...

I've always said that in the NFL...you're doing 1 of 3 things....

1. Competing

2. Rebuilding

3. Falling Apart

The goal is always to win the next game on your schedule....but you have to be honest with where your franchise is at in order to give it the best chance to be successful in the future...or you end up pissing away all your draft picks for other teams trash or injured dumbbells.... have zero depth.... end up with a handfull of overpaid, over-the-hill vets.... no quarterback...no offensive line...and miss the playoffs 6 years in a row and finally pay the piper with a 1-15 record.

If Tebow and Stafford are the best QBs in the '09 draft, I'd pass and stick with Henne.

If Sam Bradford declares for the '09 draft, and he is there when the Dolphins make the selection, we can't pass him up. As much as I like Chad Henne, I don't think he'll ever be in the same class Bradford could be in.

Okay...maybe its me., but what's the diff in out QB of the future and our QB of the now?

The QB of the future is the one you want to build the team around by the time you're ready to compete...

The QB of the now is the one to a) Mentor the QB of the future until he's ready....b) Get the crap beat out of him so it doesn't ruin you're QB of the future until he's ready to step in...

so what...are we gonna just keep going through QB after QB, year after year? u like that? id like to have a QB that we can depend on that will be around for awhile...how many QBs have we gone through since Marino left and ur sayin we dont need to worry about the future? I dont want to get a guy just to try and win this year and then when he dont get rid of him and try again, i want a guy that'll be around for awhile, a guy that u can actually say is an elite QB...yea we need a guy now but like u said Pennington was the Jets QB and they just released him like nothin, obviously he wasnt their future QB anymore, hes like 32. Penningtons been on their team for 8 years, thats about how long its been since Marino retired so i think its about time we look for a Franchise QB instead of a short term answer. I think having Pennington as a mentor to Henne will be great for him, and i think it definately makes us a better team as of now, but for the future id like to have a young guy that we can rely on for years.

I was being ironic.....I don't see alot of difference in the roles based on the arms in camp.

We have one arm that can't get it done and will be injured, and, a bunch of arms that have no idea what it takes to play in the NFL.

Again, I don't see a battle at all.

The HC will make a move that will provide us with the lepper with the most toes.

Right...my scenario was in a perfect world...

But make no mistake....Pennington is the now...Henne is the future...Beck is....well....still a virgin...
