So glad the Cutler deal is done. For the most part he did not go to the Jets, and we do not need to hear about the Fin Fans lobbying for the Dolphins to get him.

Heres my thoughts. Cutler would probably have been an upgrade at QB, however it would have been more of a latteral move. Pennington is winning now, and Henne has the potential to be great. The team needs to collect young talent through the draft, and build.

As I said Cutler may be an upgrade, but dealing the amount of picks it took to get him, IMO was not worth it. It would have said the rest of the team back two years, to collect the young talent the Phins can get in this draft. Also I think Penny is a bigger student of the game, and makes less mistakes, which helps when he doesn't have play makers at WR... yet.

Penny is helping the team progress, and teaching Henne as he goes, with Henne's talent, and toutoring from Penny, he can come in and be the franchise QB people want from Cutler.

Of course this could all go to poop, if Penny's arm expires, and Henne does not improve. But Cutler could struggle with middle of the pack WR, and the Fins could never recover from the picks traded away..

Thats may rant

I pretty much agree but if it were a year ago i'd be singing a completely different tune. Even as an Ohio State guy I am starting to get eager to see Henne in there. I really think he's ready to go but because of the situation were in it still makes more sense to go with Pennington.

Henne's used to playing, not watching. He's pretty poised and unfazed by defenses so I think he'll hit the ground running. If we were to lose Pennington week 9 or 10 we could honestly be looking at an improvement in our passing game by season's end.

when you talk about henne, just remember it wasnt that long ago that everyone was saying the same things about beck.

henne will be a question mark until he plays. then and only then will we know if he has a chance to be the future

I was always a Beck supporter, but to me now its obvious who's the capable NFL QB.

I watched Henne for 4 years at Michigan, he's more than ready for the NFL. I can honestly say I knew nothing of Beck before we drafted him.

I did like his talent and thought he had promise. Now he just appears to be running out of time. I've come to grips with the plan and I am aboard 100%.

With Beck his age really turned me off, I knew no rookie was going to come in and start on the Fins when they drafted him, even Brady Quinn. Knowing the rookie would sit 2-3 years just really confused me as to why they would draft a 27 year old rookie

Friend Ghost:
I don't think anything is obvious & respect all opinions
however, I can assure of three things:
1) Pennington could be entering a rebirth in the NFL, a virtual Football Renaissance. Penny @ 33 could be the future. think about the 2008 SuperBowl.
2) he has earned the right to go for the big enchilada by virtue of the 2008 season. he is the starter & the subject should be more about him, not the understudies.
3) Pennington will be the decisive factor in Hennes future. what Penny does this year will dictate the rest of the story. it's all in Pennington's hands. Henne is standings in the wings & Beck not far behind him. just a mistake away, Beck awaits his opportunity
trust me: Pennington will not go quietly into the night.
Pennington!:thanks:

I think that's the way we all with have to deal with it, I still think Beck has some talent, but I'm moving toward Henne, 1. because he's younger and will give us more years..and 2. Beck won't be given the opportunity to show his stuff in an extended way in Miami.

neither are ready for command
both unproven & unknown NFL entities
anything can happen when they hit the playing field
the #2's are contenders
the only sure thing is Pennington is the starter

Cameron obviously had plans for him right away.

Yeah, his age was a turn off for me as well. Cameron's line of thinking was pretty flawed. Actually, it's VERY flawed. The idea that just because a rookie quarterback is older doesn't mean he'll progress at a faster rate than a rookie that is 22 or 23. A rookie is a rookie. Often times being an overaged prospect only hinders your career, instead of helping it.

Friend X-Pacolypse once again cut to the hear of the the thread:
"Often times being an over-aged (let's swap out over-aged for over-rated) prospect only hinders your career, instead of helping it."

and there's the onion!:hump:over-rated, great expectations, a cult of unwarranted adoration, a formula for unhappiness

the onion will always make you cry:boohoo:

I too, am glad I don't have to filter through all the Cutler threads to find a decent one any more.

There was no way in hell we were looking at Cutler anyway. This front office will not give up two first rounders, PLUS give up un the previous season's second rounder, to get their hands on a position no where near the top of the positional need list. It just makes no sense.

Viva la Chads.
