QUARTERBACKS GETTING THEIR FEET WET: Second-year quarterback John Beck acted the role of veteran during his first on-field workout with rookie Chad Henne and seventh-year free agent Josh McCown, pointing out certain things to the other two and helping them line up properly. Beck, a second-round pick with the 40th overall pick in 2007, seems intent on doing what it takes to earn the starting job, but he's also energized by the competition.

Sparano has Beck and McCown splitting days with the first-team offense in order to allow each of them to feel comfortable through an entire practice. Both quarterbacks are happy with the arrangement.

"It's better than going back and forth every other play," said McCown, who has played for the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders. "It's nice to come out and say, 'All right this is my day to go with the first team. I'm going to go out and work with these guys.' It's better for continuity if you ask me. Regardless, that's the way it is. We have to do the best with it."

Henne was selected in the second round with the 57th overall pick in April, but Beck tried not to concern himself over the ramifications of that draft choice and how they impact his role with the team. And the three-man competition isn't fazing the 26-year-old BYU grad either, at least not on the surface.

"That's not our job to worry about. Right now, our job is when the coaches go in, we're in and we're just trying to take care of our plays," Beck said. "We can't worry about the other stuff, we can just worry about what we can do and let the coaches do their thing."

I Really Like Beck... He Has The Right Attitude And Work Ethic... Hopefully We See Some Wins In 2008 And I Will Be Very Happy!! :woot:

I got a chuckle out of this. So typical John Beck. Well, he's 26 years old. It's like I said in my draft review. He's only a 2nd year guy where Henne is a 1st year guy so many would think it odd that Beck would be in a position to mentor him, but that's the truth of the matter. He's 26 years old and Henne is like 22. He gets things, and he sees things, and I'm positive that Beck benefited from spending a year with Trent Green. Absolutely positive of it. Ultimately if John Beck rubs off on Chad Henne a whole lot, Chad probably has the potential to be the better quarterback. Ultimately. But that's a big if.

Beck definately has the head and mental/character makeup to be a good quarter back. The only question is on gameday, can he hold on to the ball and get it consistently to the open man. Can he score touchdowns? This competition will only allow the best man to rise to the top. (If its fair of course)

Maturity goes a long way. Although they are 1st and 2nd year players respectively, the maturity level of Beck is far more advanced than Henne only because of age. So IMO its nothing out of the ordinary that Beck is teaching Henne, where I get a little confused is where it states that Beck seems to also be "mentoring" (or showing things to and teaching where to line up) McCown. McCown is a 7 year vet and 2 years older than Beck. I think from a maturity standpoint, McCown should easily be the most mature and experienced but I didnt get that sense from reading the story.

Good for Beck!

well according to omar kelly of the sun sentinel all three quarterbacks looked terrible yesterday.

That wasn't what he said.:

"None of the quarterbacks were sharp. None, but it takes time to get adjusted with new receivers."

Big difference between "not sharp" and "terrible."
