QB Wonderlic Scores

I don't put huge stock in the wonderlic. I love the clip of Warren sapp discussing (more making fun) of Akili Smith's score. Said Mr. Sapp with astonishment, "Akili Smith got a 9 on the Wonderlic! A 9!"

Im not even joking here, I'd much rather watch a QB prospect play Madden then sit him down at a table with a pen... AINEC

Wouldnt put much stock into any but at least I could interrogate him on his decision proccess while playing a football game.

As far as I can tell the test has nothing to do with football. A person can be dumb as a rock but all that matters is that they understand the game of football. LeBron James probably can't do college level Algebra but his basketball IQ is as high as any player in the NBA. If I had to pick between a guy with high football IQ and high booksmart IQ I'm going with the football IQ.

I remember reading a few years back, not sure how true it is, that some scouts actually prefer a lower wonderlic score for some positions, like DB. I guess the idea is that they believe that if the DB is “too smart” they’ll hesitate when the ball is in the air, instead of reacting off of natural instincts. Not sure if the same would apply to all positions, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

He only scored a 13 because his pencil broke and he wasn't able to finish the test.

But seriously is there some sort of correlation between being a successful QB in the NFL and having a high wonderlic? No, no there is not. If you can't read a book but you can read a defense that's all that matters.

The test is given. Teams must see some value

Something to keep an eye on while you draft QB wonderlic results are in (score is out of 50)

Nate Stanley (Iowa): 40
Jake Fromm (Georgia); 35
Joe Burrow (LSU): 34
Jake Luton (Oregon State): 29
Jordan Love (Utah State): 27
Justin Herbert (Oregon): 25
Anthony Gordon (Washington State): 25
Brian Lewerke (Michigan State): 25
Jacob Eason (Washington): 23
James Morgan (Florida International): 23
Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma): 18
Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama): 13

Huh. He’s dumb as a box of rocks. Well, so was Marino, and Lamar Jackson, and many other good QB’s so that’s something anyways. LOL

I ruffled a lot of feathers by bringing this up in the Tua worship thread. Even got called an argumentive weasel. Because I said this.

Tua got a 13, wow.
No... people told you it doesnt matter and you just wont have it...

Feel free to get like Mortal Kombat and "Test your Might". Might be fun to give it go and perhaps give y'all a fresh perspective.

Another big yawn. It doesn't matter because forum guys said it, yet the NFL continues to use it. Makes sense.

Guess the NFL won't have it either.
No... it doesnt matter because there's absolutely no correlation between test scores and QB production at the NFL level...
