Forget dropping names, what would be the qualifications you are looking for?

Previous NFL HC experience that knows SUCCESS. Not a loser coach to recycle. And Im sure it was a good gamble hiring Belichick after the browns and jets, but we don't need that now.
Shanahn and Mike Smith come to mind. Successful teams.
No more gambles on "Up and coming" asst. coaches and coordinators. No college coaches unless we are talking Urban Meyer. Success with 2 different major college programs.

1. NFL Head Coaching experience
2. Wants a tough, punch-you-in-the-mouth physical team
3. Will not run any sissy college style offense
4. Will do the opposite of what Coyle did on defense

I want the anti-Philbin! You know, a guy who can recognize that Dallas Thomas is NOT starting material on an NFL line, and a guy with enough solid connections that he won't have to build his staff from the listings on his cellphone provider's "Friends and Family" plan.

1- Makes actual adjustments
2-Will not be forced to work with or for anybody currently with dolphins
3-Innovative game plan, good understanding of game
4-Must have control of roster, but not draft
5-Be able to build a good staff
6-Will not act like an oklahoma drill is some damn revelation

1. Experience
2. Flexibility (will adapt scheme and gameplans to go fit the players we have, and the teams we are facing)
3. Offensive mind with success developing QB's

1. Head Coach experience at the NFL level preferred
2. Has strong coaching contacts to be able to bring in an OC & DC and position coaches as needed
3. Offensive minded with emphasis on QB development or be able to provide someone who has these traits
4. Good talent evaluator

1. Someone who hasn't won a Super Bowl. I have been over this before. Eventually, maybe, someone will win a ring with a 2nd franchise but more often than not success isn't found with that new team. What worked then doesn't work now. The lightning that was caught in a bottle for that moment in time is so hard to recapture.

2. Someone with a sound and firm vision. Are you a running team, then be a running team. Commit to your plan. You want to be a high powered offense, then be it. To often our guys have a vision for the team and then they lose their identity week to week.

3. Head coaching experience. Don't care what level but someone that knows what it takes to lead, build, and make important in game decisions.

4. Avoid the hot name. More often than not the hottest name on the block is more flash than sizzle. Get a good name, a great coach. Not the name of the moment.

5. Find someone who the players will love and fear. I want them to want to die out there for their coach but be terrified of him in the process.

Has to have a history either as a playcaller. If he doesn't he must have a great track record developing talent.

Heisenphin - You are a wise man despite your drug dealing persona. I agree with a lot of these but would add an additional attribute. The ability to work well with other key persons in the organization. The person selected needs to be able to work with a GM (Hickey), Mike Tannenbaum and most importantly, our owner, Stephen Ross. There are numerous examples of guys with the coaching skills but an inability to work with others. Ideally, we can find someone who can do both.
