Chad Pennington might be my favorite player in this league and if not he is at the top of that list. Pennington's 2008 season was special as he lead a team that lacked direction to a division crown and his numbers were solid. The loss in week 1 to the Atlanata Falcons and the playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens have seriously shown me something that is discouraging. When Pennington is pressured he forces the ball and seems not to protect the ball which leads to turnovers. Pennington threw a horrid interception and fumbled another ball which took the Dolphins out of this game entirely. Pennington's lack of arm strength allows other teams to stack the box which eliminates the Ricky/Ronnie combination and their corners can cheat up because they are not afraid of Pennington beating them deep. John Abraham did dominate Jake Long but before we say the rookie got schooled listen to what Abraham said in a post game interview as he mentioned that he knew Pennington as a Quarterback when they played together in New York. He said he knew that Pennington would only take three steps back and then plant so instead of trying to run around Jake Long where Jake could utilize his strength and handle Abraham he ran inside of him with a bull rush which worked. Ed Reed said that he picked off two passes against us in the playoffs because Chad was staring down receivers. What this says to me is that there are a lot of habit of Pennington that good defensive players study.

When you look at the top teams in this league and see the Quarterbacks that correspond with them you will see that those teams have Elite calibur Quarterbacks. For example...

Chargers-Phil Rivers
Steelers-Big Ben
Ravens-Joe Falcco
Colts-Peyton Manning
Patriots-Tom Brady
Eagles-Donovan McNabb
Giants-Eli Manning
Vikings-Brett Favre
Cardinals-Kurt Warner

Coincidence? I think not. Let's look at the last ten Super-Bowl winners. Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, Trent Dilfer, and Brad Johnson. Dilfer and Johnson are the only Quarterbacks on this list that are at Pennington's level but those teams had defense we couldn't even dream of. Is Chad Henne or Pat White on this level? No one knows but I can tell you that Pennington is not but he is a game manager who plays smart, works hard , and is a fearless leader. You cannot help yourself not to love thi guys game but for us to turn the corner we have to turn to Henne or White and that will happen after this season. I am the biggest Pennington homer in this world but the truth is the truth and sometimes it hurts

THIS HURTS ME TOOO!!!!

I friggn bought a Pennington jersey at the stadium before our first game last year against the Jets to support our starting QB. Though thick and thin I have defended him even when I had my doubts.

I have screamed at the top of my lungs at the games GINN IS WIDE OPEN, THROW IT TO GINN so many times the people around me have probably moved their season tickets.

I was at the Ravens playoff game and what I saw on tv yesterday reminded me so much of it that I was sick to my stomache.

I will still wear my Pennington jersey to the Monday home opener, but I do so with trepidation. This is going to be a tough week.

Great post!! I for one am sick af the "game manager" QB. We need a FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK once and for all and haven't had one since Dan Marino

I'm sick of dump off passe on every play. We run half a playbook since most of the routes other receivers run in the NFL would never see a pass from Pennington.

I understand the devil advocate saying that Pennington doesn't turn the ball over and with the exception of the last two games we have played he has proven that. The thing is he doesn't take many chances either and thats why he has low turnovers. Does Chad Henne make us a better team now? No. Pennington is the better Quarterback but the only way a young Quarterback learns is by thowing them into the fire ie. Joe Flacco, Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez. I am not so sure that henen is our man b/c the more I watch Patrick White the more I see our future.

Unless the O-LINE plays better it won't matter who you have at QB...Henne is not mobile enough...and can White play a full 16 game season?

I think you are one of the most knowledgable fans on here, but to say Pat White is our Future is head scratching AT BEST. I have seen nothing from Pat White to this point to even begin to justify our Drafting of him in this years Draft in the second Rd or any round actually. I think our Brilliant Offensive coaches spent so much time designing and practicing gimmicks like Wildcat, Wildpat, etc, that we forgot to actually practice REAL FOOTBALL.

Your 2009 Dolphins Offense= "Jack of all Trades, Master of None"

Chad Pennington had two very strange plays, either of which might've changed the game's course. The first was in the second quarter. Atlanta blitzed. Wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr. was a good 6-10 yards behind the defensive back. Instead, with time to see the open Ginn on that side of the field, Pennington chucked the ball out of bournds.

The other play, a third-and-5 from the Dolphins 33, began with Pennington in shotgun and Ronnie Brown going in motion to the right. Nobody picked up Brown after the snap, leaving him all alone at the right sideline, a perfect safety valve that could take the pass a long way. Alas, Pennington never looked at that way and dumped off to Davone Bess for no gain. Brown stood in full fume before snatching off his chin strap and exchanging loud voices with one of the Dolphins assistants.

Armando doing what Armando does best. I suppose all the players are just up in arms about how bad Pennington is, led by rebellion leader Ronnie Brown.

It horrifies me to say this, but I think we're turning into Jets fans. I'm sure junc will verify.

Actually we may be worse than the Jets fans. They don't put up with lousy play for long.

Pennington is a team offense QB. He is a team guy. His success revolves around the success of the team. Last season, he was on good terms with the entire offense. Those relationships made him better. I question them now. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Pennington is good enough at QB to do what he did last season. What more can you ask from in a QB? I guess a Super Bowl victory. But to do that, Miami's offense would have needed to build on what they had last season. And coach Sparano has been preaching that last season doesn't matter. That's BS.

Miami basically has the same offense as last season with a couple of new receivers. So you would think that all the offense needs to do is gel together again. And on top of that, the OC needs to understand the rhythm of his playcalling. He has to call the plays at the right times to highlight the stengths of the offense. Right off the bat, it seems like the coaches are experimenting too much. I heard Sparano say in his PC today that they "just want to see a look" from the defense. That sounds like a waste of a play. It sounds like there is too much thought going into this... and not enough heart.

The Dolphins got bullied yesterday. If you saw Sparano today, it's hard to even show your face after that. It's very humiliating. The Dolphins should take that STING they have now and unite to never feel that again. They need that kind of guidance to start clicking on the same page together. Otherwise, they will get abused in some other fashion, come up short next week, and keep taking the scraps from the table and calling them meals.

Check out my post about the game yesterday below.

I wish I could give you two thank you's!! This team WAS NOT ready...and that comes from the top down. The play calling is pure high school football. When your trick plays are your best plays...your offense has a major problem. When you can't block anyone...you have a major problem. When you can't get open unless you have to run 50 yds you have a major problem. This team has major problems.

That's not Armando.
David J. in Atlanta, doing what'll probably be my last bit of subbing for Armando before he fully returns to the blogosphere this week.
