Something for the pessimists with 1 quarter of the season gone already.

3 DOWN – Three issues that need correcting.

• The days of having the top 2 cover corners are over. It was nice while it lasted, but no matter how good Daniels is (and I belive he is good) the days of shutting out the other teams best WR week in and week out are over. It is a rare thing to have, just like having a Dan Marino, but those days are gone. Saban’s pass defense may be better in the long run, but for now it’s not working.
• If the WR’s don’t know how to go after the ball, they need to be coached better. None of them are rookies, so there is no excusing what they do on the field, but on the sideline someone better start doing some screaming.
• Penalties. I’m skeptical about Saban’s approach to this. He is setting a tone for his era, and it looks like sloppy Raiderball to me. Does anyone around here remember the Shula days when every year the Dolphins committed the least penalties in the league? It was the result of discipline. And when you take over a 4-12 team, you have to supply that discipline. You have to set the tone. When teams play sloppy, 18-penalty, 5-turnover football, after a bye-week, that is a reflection of coaching, and cannot be dismissed as a lack of player responsibility.

that is right but everyone keeps putting it on saba, it is NOT his fault. will you guys look at the INT thrown? it was just balls taht were HORRIBLY passed and one that hung in the air for about 5 hours!! it is not anyones fault but our QB not being that good. Second, the pen. are a probem but its mainly from our lack of talent on O. line. as Houck said before the season, teh problem is our group of guys are shy and quite so they dont communicate much and he keeps trying to get them to do that but it doesnt work as he said its their personality and been tha tway for 30 years so it is too late to try and change someones personality. We just need better Talent on the O Line and a QB then can actually deliever the long ball as Gus honestly speaking can't. He missed a few open WRs' and just had the balls floating to long and in the worng direction.
