I would like to get everyones thoughts on these 2 guys they fit our 3-4 OLB and parcells loves big fast olb, i have watched groves plenty of times and he is a beast but i dont know that much about avril they both run in the 4.5 range and both over 250lbs. IF we go with jake long #1 one of these guys might be a fin in round 2.

I would have no problem taking Groves at #32 if he is still there and ONLY if we take Jake Long at the top of the draft. Truth is our LB's are beginning to get old (with the exception of Chrowder) we could definitely use an outstanding young LB for years to come. A corner definitely needs to be considered there as well if and only if Jake is the first pick, which i dont think he will be because we have to get a OT with one of our first 2 picks, not necessarly the #1 overall.

I like the idea of Avril but if we get Chris Long why would we draft Groves or Avril?

If it weren't for the injuries, I think Groves would be right up there with Long and Gholston. IMHO.

If, for some Un-Godly reason we do take Jake Long, then I sure hope Groves is there at #32. If he's not there, then we must take Avril at #57. After that, it's a crapshoot!

I'm a Groves fan. I have heard several real concerns about him though. While his straight line speed is truly phenomenal, he's got stiff hips and his cone drill and lateral agility have really come into question. People wonder if he can cover well enough or if he's strictly a pass rusher--abeit a good one. There are also concerns that he's going to have a much tougher time adjusting from DE to OLB than guys like Long and Gholston.

Personally, I've seen the kid play and I'm convinced he's going to bring the heat off the edge. He's got a fantastic first step and is a rocket speed rusher. Yeah, he may not be the best at angles or the best tackler, yeah he may not be as functionally strong as he should be, etc., but dynamite pass rushers are worth their weight in gold, and if he can do that--and I firmly believe he can--then I'd love to have him even if he's a situational player. I think he's going to be an every-down LB, and while his strength will always be pass rushing, I really like Groves.

Everyone talks about Gholston being a great package, but he's only truly superior to Long in one category, speed. I don't understand why all those people who drool over Gholston aren't also drooling over Groves, who has more speed than Gholston and is an absolute freak speed rusher.

As for Avril, he's a good athlete and I like him too, but I don't think he plays as fast as Groves. In round 3, absolutely, in round 2 .... I'm not so sure. I like both of those guys though. They bring the heat.

Umm Gholston is the strongest DE/OLB in the draft. Groves has better long Speed but Gholston has better explosion DE/OLB in the draft. I think Groves make the better 3-4 OLB than Long and Gholston because Groves has played OLB and has done quite well.

Groves was recruited as a DE. He played LB and DE at Auburn. If anything he is going to have the easiest transition of anyone mentioned. Gholston, the thing I remember about him is the deer in the headlights look he had when he played UF because he couldn't handle the speed that they were throwing at him.

I disagree about the strongest. I'm not talking about bench pressing, I'm talking about ability to move people in the game. Both men are extremely strong, but Long's functional strength seems even better than Gholston's based on film. Some of that might be muscles but a lot of it is hands, timing, and leverage. Functional strength in game is what I'm really interested in moreso than weight lifting strength. Hope that makes sense. :)

I doubt Groves will be there at pick #32, but you guys should be able to get Avril with your second second round pick if you didn't already choose Chris Long.

Hey, I'm not doubting Groves, I really like the guy. I'm just passing on what some scouts have mentioned as a potential challenge for him. I don't think anyone doubts Groves ability to rush off the edge, but I dont' think he dropped into coverage much in college. I think that's the area they mean when they're saying it might be a tougher transition to OLB.

Groves is IDEAL for the 3-4 and would really have no question marks.

Problem is will he be there at 32 . . .
